Possible Coaching Candidates

I just know which BOT members are against Pitino
Well (my opinion), they're real hardcore idiots.
They want SJU to never EVERRRRR celebrate winning, they just want us die hards to be f'ing miserable.
I swear on my life I'd do just about anything to see SJU basketball as an elite program, and look all the B.E. rival fans in the eye, and say proudly: "yeah your damn straight , I'm a Redmen fan, and we're back."

Is there a way to getting the miserable ones off the BOT, what good a they, really?

I know a guy who knows a guy!!! 😉

There is not one legitimate reason why St. John’s shouldn’t go after Rick Pitino. There won’t be bad press and if anything more positive press that the school did what it should do to resuscitate the program. He has more then redeemed him self and his image in his current job and he would bring a fire and excitement to the program like no other.

If Shanley and Cragg whiff on this hire they should both be gone as it would indicate that neither are aware of the importance of the basketball program to the University and to its alumni base. And to those holier than now posters who are upset with the naughty things that Mr. Pitino did, ……..

“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”

St. John’s finally has a chance to get something right, don’t screw it up.

You do realize that the BOT has a lot to say on who gets hired? It’s not just Cragg and Shanley

Just think of Pitino as a 5 star recruit. He will say nice things about St. John’s and keep us on his list but he’s not coming to St. John’s.

You saying the same thing every night is really getting old.

Maybe a miracle will happen (God puts it in their hearts to forgive Pitino or something), and they say "lets roll the dice" and seewhere Rick can take us.

We been nothing for 23 years, I can wait out another 3-4 weeks.

SJU could definitely beat Butler, then most likely lose to Marquette, so if CMA is fired it will be next Thursday or friday.
Iona has a great chance making the ncaa tourny, so we'll have to wait on Pitino, unless SJU hires a coach before Iona is done.

Who are the board members that are against hiring Pitino.

If it’s Pitino or bust for you, then you might as well leave now! I don’t want you to leave but feel that it might be best for your mental health.

I don’t think there will be a change before the end of NCAAs.
Why? Unless there is a significant drop in his buyout say after April 1 there is no reason to wait once the season is over.

I remember when Shaka left Texas for Marquette it was the worst kept secret that Texas wanted Chris Beard and that Beard was likely to take the job. But Texas waited until April 1 to officially hire him and Beard to officially accept because the buyout in his contract significantly dropped on April 1.

Was that the case with Mullin? Didn’t we wait a few weeks till nearly the end of the tournament to cut ties with him?

But that is because Mullin resigned and as far as I know SJU did not have any intention of making a change. I mean Cragg issued a statement at the Final Four making it clear Mullin was still the coach. Mullin did not like the fact he was not getting an extension and certain other things.

This is different. SJU has essentially already decided to move on.

Much like Norm Roberts in 2010. Remember during the BE Tourney Lenn Robbins has the back page article in the Post saying Norm was out. SJU declined to confirm but it was a done deal. SJU won a game in the BET and then they surprisingly got a NIT bid. He stayed they lost to Memphis and the next day SJU announced he was out. But it was the worst kept secret.

Here is the Lenn Robbins article from 2010 after the loss to Memphis saying that Roberts was out and was likely to be announced as early as that day. It was. He also references the article he wrote a WEEK earlier saying the decision had already been made not to retain him.

St. John’s season ended in gut-retching fashion Wednesday night in a 73-71 loss at Memphis in a first-round NIT game. Now comes the hard part.

As the Red Storm flew back from Memphis yesterday afternoon, the administration was ironing out the logistics to be as respectful as possible to outgoing coach Norm Roberts.

As The Post reported last week, Roberts will not be retained for a seventh season. An official announcement could come as soon as today.
