I was happy with the Mahoney, Fran, Jarvis and Mullin hirings.
I was fine with the Anderson hiring especially the way the process had played out was shocked we got someone with his credential.
I talked myself into being okay with the Roberts and Lavin hirings.
Maybe if we hire someone I would be ecstatic over, our luck would change. Either that or I should just not have an opinion.
All this proves is we should trust WASJU more than you.
My takes:
Mahoney - St John's had always seemed to keep it in the family so what else should I expect, hadn't been through a hire b4 so no opinion
Fran - I would have given Fran's left testicle for a bigger hire, but I liked his fire so I was in favor and would have been happy to have him for longer if he wasn't such a douche
Jarvis - Thought it was a good hire at the time, by year three I realized his MO was riding on the backs of his players (Ewing, Dare, Rogers, Lorch's kids), that he had no interest in getting more players, that he didn't respect the school, and wanted him gone. In retrospect hate Hatten (not really) for saving his job in that NIT
Kevin Clark - See Mahoney with extenuating circumstances, but I did not go out to a strip club to celebrate
Norm - Who would want this job anyway the way the admin are talking about the program, and maybe Self will wear off, but I was not optimistic, nor should I have been. Did throw a party when I was sure it wasn't going to be Doh. If there's anything worse than a Fran style DB it's a preening schmo db and that's Doh.
Lavin - Was in favor due to the low expectations I had for the program after the previous 10 years of futility. A name. A guy with a history of success, if not meeting the extremely high expectations over in Westwood. Of course Alford made me realize that a dead man could achieve similar at UCLA but I digress. All that said he would have been our best coach since Lou if Cap's death, his cancer and other personal issues didn't pull his attention away from the program.
Mullin - Knew and stated that this was an accident waiting to happen. Chris had neither the experience nor the personality to pull this off.
Anderson - Kind of a mirror of Fran in my response though his CV was definitely stronger than Fran's and as you said the process was more concerning than the hire. I wanted more but wasn't pissed. Let's put it that way
