Exactly. Urgo might be awesome and end up being a fantastic head coach. But St. John’s is not in a position to take that big of a chance. Not apples to apples.
Moser built Loyola for years and won. Neptune did not.
Urgo has done a remarkable job. But not enough of a sample size to warrant a jump yet.
The guy has only been there one year so how much time has he had to recruit if that’s your argument. But, Neptune was only there for one Year also. He’s winning with Kyle Neptune’s players. In my opinion, too soon
The city always seems to care when we win. Winning fixes all. Some big time St. Johns grads in all types of power positions here. Win; people come, people donate, school get more $$$$$. All changes when you start to win consistently. What about Deuce? Great Post-Game interviews. Jarvis can join as the director of "freelance offense"
Seriously, do you think any big name coach would come here? I'm sorry but I just don't see it. We are a bottom half of the league team with limited resources and a city that doesn't care about CBB. Better to go to a place with big donors and bigger N$L offers.
The fact that Yukon got the rebound on 50% of their missed shots is most telling. The game stats were surprisingly pretty even
Don't think he's ever been east of Vegas and he's turned down far better jobs than this oneHow much does Randy Bennett make at St. Mary's?
He's only 60. If it were actually possible, i'd take him over 71 yr old Pitino
He's on several billionaires' candidates list at a nearby school that is torn about letting its coach go.How much does Randy Bennett make at St. Mary's?

You guys make Pitino older than he actually is. He is 70. Will be 71 in September. If you think that’s too old to be coaching a D1 basketball team, tell that to Jim Larranaga down in Miami. How much does Randy Bennett make at St. Mary's?

71 at the start of the next bball season. Medicareadavantage has a whole article about it. (Not even joking see below!)You guys make Pitino older than he actually is. He is 70. Pitino would not be starting from scratch with us. If this would be his first D1 coaching job at 70, then I would agree with you. This is a coach who’s had much success and knows how to get things done. He has a wealth of coaching experience and knowledge.71 at the start of the next bball season. Age of Success in March Madness | Do Older Coaches Win More Games?
A new study outlines the average ages of successful head coaches during the NCAA D1 men's basketball tournament. You won't believe what our research found.www.medicareadvantage.com
Plenty of examples of old coaches doing well, Larranaga, Boeheim, Tom Izzo, Hamilton (rough year), Huggy Bear has to be near 70 and WVA wins some times. All are capable of fielding a winning team. The problem is they did not starting from scratch at 71.
I’m obviously not a Pitino guy, but the right time to hire would have been after Mullin. Retaining a coach in their 70’s is less daunting and if he had an NCAA tournament game win, boy howdy 70 would be the new 30. But instead, Pitino said he’d be greatest coach in St. John’s history but only interested on the caveat that the DA for southern district apologize to him. It’s funny in the mess of trying to hire and getting rejected by Hurley, idol, and Poser I forgot about those outrageous comments. Easy to see why besides the baggage decision makers would be turned off by the sheer ego of the guy.
I posted an article here, where he was saying that he wants 5-6 years at a new school.Pitino would not be starting from scratch with us. Second, I’m not naive to think if he did come here, he would be here for five or more years. I don’t expect that. For the short time he would be here, he would get this program back to national prominence and make it a desirable place to coach.
He’s not going to get 5-6 years. That may just be his starting point for negotiations.I posted an article here, where he was saying that he wants 5-6 years at a new school.
If he turns out to be No. 2 on list I am perfectly fine with that. A 25-year stretch with the same guy would be quite refreshing.I am thinking will be Claxton.
I seriously doubt Pitino an option mostly because we can’t have nice things. If he turns out to be No. 2 on list I am perfectly fine with that. A 25-year stretch with the same guy would be quite refreshing.
