Possible Coaching Candidates

I am a "no" on both Arbitello and Van Macon. I have a ton of respect for Van and think he is a major asset. However, I would prefer our next hire to have head coaching experience. Van has none (at any level).

Arbitello would be brand new to the college game and ascending directly to a major conference. While a potential CTK pipeline might be initially attractive, it won't last and Arbitello's presence won't necessarily endear us to other city programs.

Greg Marshall had an unbelievable record at Witchita State plus has a semi-sorta connection to SJU having been a longtime assistant to John Kresse at Charleston.

He may also be a psychopath.

A psychopath that wins though.
Can confirm that even beyond the stuff that's public knowledge that Marshall is a psychopath

Valid points, but I am not sure unfamiliarity is a disqualifying handicap. Get the right assistant coaches, visit city high schools, connect with local AAU programs, and it doesn't matter much.

I do agree that none of these guys would be easy to land, but much easier than some of the pipe dreams we discuss (i.e. Billy Donovan, Chris Mack, Mike Brey, Chris Holtman, Chris Beard, etc). I just hope these four, and others like them, are considered in the process.

It's going to be sad when just about every name who has been brought up in this thread turns down even coming in for an Interview. And the best remaining choice ends up being to just bring CMA back.

Is there a convicted serial killer with college basketball coaching experience out on parole that is a possible candidate?
I think the closest we'll get is if the school goes down the alumni road again and hires that walk on from early in the Lavin tenure that was a serial killer in Florida

What started out as a very promising thread regarding the hopes of Pitino, has devolved into a pattern of darkness and retreat to where names of coaches that are being raised need to first watch “Coming to America” to know how to locate Queens and in particular SJU.

Yeesh.

Unlike Beard and Bates, Marshall only assaults men.

A plus in my book.

Marshall denies the allegations against him.

If the case against Coach Marshall was open and shut then ask yourself why Wichita State paid him $7,75 Million dollars.

Pitino wants the job, fits our needs, knows and loves New York, wants the big stage at MSG, can recruit, is an expert in game tactician, can and has sent kids to the pros, is at a stage in his career where he doesn’t need big money, could resuscitate a near dead program, energize our flaccid fan base, attract huge NIL money, and make St. John’s basketball games must see events.

He would also retain our current players, improve their play individually and as a team, win in the Big East, and get us to the tourney.

Everything else on this thread is bullshit.

I'm at the point now where if it ain't Pitino, I don't really give a flying F who it is. But I'm just gonna say this, and you guys can take it to the bank; if we don't hire Pitino, and he winds up at GT and resurrects that program, and we go out and make another shit hire, I'm done with this program for good. I'm way to old, and have been beaten down way to long, to continue to follow a program who doesn't give a rats ass about its diehard fan base.

So what if he’d prefer gtown to us?

Interesting Twitter thread on Pitino and state of college hoops. Click and read the first tweet and the subsequent 8 tweets as well.

He’s definitely not alone in that would think that’s at least part of why Roy, K, and Jay left when they still has a little gas left in the tank
