Possible Coaching Candidates

Other than Becker from this list I kind of like Grasso as he won't be boring. And since I have serious doubts any of these guys can turn things around, and this is entertainment after all, Grasso sounds pretty good. Stick around for the handshake lines when we play UCONN!

Claxton could be a great hire, but that would be a very big gamble, as it's not hard to see him failing. There is so little to go on. I don't think the school has anyone, including the AD, who has the chops to sort it out. They won't go that way.

The only retread I could stomach is Mack, which is kind of ironic since I always kind of hated him when he was at Xavier. If you are going to hire Holtman, might as well save some money and go with Langel or Becker who would be cheaper. I don't see Holtman coming here and having quick recruiting chops. As for Mack I seem to remember Goodman saying they were close, and that Mack was totally burnt out and don't expect to see him back anytime soon. If I didn't dream that it's a real red flag.

Hurley used the school just four years ago and helped setup a nationally embarrassing search process that would have landed SJU on Lettermans Top Ten if he hadn't already retired. How can the BOT possibly have a problem with Pitino and NOT Hurley? I don't think he is candidate, and I rather have Wojo than him (if it is just between the two) if those were the options.

Boynton is basically replacing Anderson with Anderson, except he has had even less prior success. Hard pass!

Young and Knight are the Stubblefield hire, NYC version. DePaul still looks like Depaul to me since he got there. Like Claxton they would have the "you never know" factor. I'm not sure I like them better than Van Macon, who they will never hire of course. All that equals another no from me.

For any old movie buffs - deciphering this hire is just like "War Games."

So essentially out of all of the realistic options, none of them are very good choices. Man we are in trouble lol

I want to see Cragg pay the price for his gross incompetence in extending CMA - a guy who had just been fired from his previous job- after only 2 years. I want to see Cragg suffer the consequences of his ineptitude.

Cragg created this mess, he deserves to choke on it.

I disagree , I would take Chris Mack in an instant after what he accomplished at Xavier. He wasn’t bad at Louisville either. It just didn’t work out.
 
Here's an outside the box name: Tim Cluess. Has anyone heard how he's doing health wise since leaving Iona?

Listen, what Hurley did is business. Don’t make it personal. If it’s determined that he’s the best candidate that we can get then we go with him.

Can’t hire a guy who was fired by a conference rival, especially with his successor having tremendous immediate success. If he’s being hired out of financial convenience, there are more inspired choices on the cheap with higher upside

Like I said , he would not be my first choice in any scenario, but I do believe he’s a much better coach than Anderson at this point. Are there other coaches I’d rather have, absolutely.
