Porter Moser

The article states "he has received no assurances he'll get a raise from his current $900,000 salary."
That surprises me and, if true, makes me respect the guy. He may not have shopped the bid.
He may just have stayed 'home'.
All that said, this search has morphed into a giant black hole. I've got no clue where it's going nor when it will end.

Since we have not gotten this right since Lou left and since no one wants the job I say we give all the coaches since Lou a second shot. None off them are very busy. First up Brian Mahoney

Sounds like Moser is a man of class, and integrity.

High major coaches would have walked all over him, IMO, which speaks to the sad state of college athletics.

The interest was legit. He was calling people for advice on appropriate staff hires last night.

This and the Hurley interest shows SJU has money even after the Rohrssen fiasco and Mullin buyout. Moser's salary would have been 2nd or 3rd highest in BE immediately after Jay Wright and on par with Cooley.

But if it's true that Moser" has received no assurances from Loyola of a raise..." and opted to stay 'home', that impresses me, as I sink further into a dark mood.
Lol.

He's the Kirby Puckett of college hoops. Then again, maybe he just doesn't want to run away from home and join the SJU circus.[/quote]

Then why even interview? Jay Wright ends up at top of everyone's list for the biggest job but he says no to everyone BEFORE interviewing. You're dealing with con men and salesmen and no matter what they say interview to drive their own deals up.

If Loyola didn't give Moser a big raise then the joke's on him. He makes $420k at Loyola a no name school in a no name conference. He could've gone from $420k to $2 mil a year. The guy is an idiot. Money goes no further in Chicago than it does here, so that argument won't hold water. I can see with Hurley living in AZ but not this time. Huge raise and a huge promotion and step up to a big boy power conference with brand name schools and the biggest arenas on national TV. Have fun! He has proven zero aside from a miracle run that will never come close again.

He went to 900k after the FF run

My understanding is he makes closer to $900,000, which is plenty to live well on, and not everything in life is about money. He's got 4 teenage kids and long standing ties to the area. I think he had a tough choice and chose to stay where he was for the reasons people with family and community ties sometimes do when offered a job upgrade that requires uprooting one's family. All indications are he is a solid coach and a solid human being. Time to move on and get a coach.

He can probably just wait a year and stay at home coaching Depaul. Have to think that's a serious possibility for him.

Maybe someone in Chicago can answer this, but since the final 4 run has Loyola overtaken college hoops interest from from DePaul and Northwestern?

I'm thinking why not build Loyola into a Big East program? They have great history a championship in the early 1960's, the recent final four run, an interested alumni base. I wonder if they are poaching casual fans from DePaul?

If Big East were to expand to 12 teams why not consider Loyola?

If that were to happen Porter made the right decision.

He was never coming here. A competent AD would have done the five minutes of due diligence it would have taken to understand this guy was not moving his family at this time. Unfortunately it is now clear that SJU does not have a competent AD and he has flushed at least one season totally down the tubes.

DePaul would never ever ever allow Loyola in the BE. That's the advantage they have in recruiting. Saying they play in better conference. It's why St. Joe's would never be in the BE. Or GW.

Mullin did not get an ext because he did not do a good job Why wouold he deserve an exit record over 4 yr stunk, did not hit the recruiting game coaching was terrible, developing kids did not appear to be happening it was time, now mo we need a named coach with ties A recruiting coach that knows how to coach and develops good relationships

Couple more weeks of this and most of you on here will be openly missing Mullin. Figure couple more obscure guys turn down job, LJ officially leaves and we start looking at HS coaches and Mullin will become everyone's all time favorite ST John's coach.

Newsie, difference is Loyola wins and gets on TV, Moser has done a great job.

Fordham basketball is a joke since the great Fred Herzog played there in the early 1990's and they were winning the Patriot League and going to the NCAA's.

Sadly we are becoming Fordham basketball.
