Pitino

Pitino should be in the area in the next week or so before he heads down to Florida for a family event. If Cragg needs his phone number let me know.

Pitino instantly puts us on the map, simple as that. Bobby H would do well for us, not a doubt. I wasn't impressed with his ASU team in their game against us, but I have faith that he would bring a level of coaching and recruiting here that we haven't seen in a long time. I suppose the dream is that one of those two options works out.
Not sure I even want to get into Pitino because, while a completely personal thing , his hiring would end my more than 50 years as a Redmen fan. I realize non one should or would care about that so let my only other comments be practical. Have any of you many fans clamoring for his hire given a thought to what that would look like? For all the Pollyanna reformation tour talk do any of you really not understand there was a lot more dirt about his time at Louisville leading to his dismissal than has been made public? Have any of you given any thought to the field day the NY media will have uncovering that dirt? Not to mention the innuendos / rumors that will become part of that tabloid feeding frenzy? Do you really think a program reeling over decades of mismanagement, poor on-court performances, strip clubs, marijuana instances, the Rysheed Jordan fiasco, etc. can take that kind of gamble? Sure Pitino wants the job, and yes, no one can deny his coaching ability. But I own a risk/reward business and to me, regardless of personal feelings, the risk SJU would be taking hiring him would just not be the worth the potential reward. Because remember, great coaches are great coaches because they get great players and Pitino has never played it straight in getting those great players. Anyone think at 66 that leopard is going to change his spots? I sure don't. And neither will the NCAA.; SJU as sacrificial lamb anyone???
you are being very dishonest! Maybe with yourself first and foremost. Pitino took Providence to the final 4 in what year 2. Pitino took over Kentucky right after Sutton got caught with Casey paying Chris Mills through was it fed ex? The program was on probation and looking at the death penalty if anything else happened. He took that program over when no one would commit. He had 5 walk ons and built a monster program. Was he dirty then? He won a Natl Champ with Kentucky, and his kids won with Tubby Smith when he left. He was at Louisville for 15 seasons. The FBi has tons of transcripts for you to review, and read testimony online. No mention of Pitino in anything, not audio, nothing, plenty on Miller and even Self. No PItino. He has a 5 game suspension to serve for failure to supervise for the escort thing with his assistant coach, but the NCAA and local authorities cleared him of being involved. So really what are you talking about??
You are right, he is a saint, an absolute saint. He left Louisville of his own accord to do charity work with lepers overseas. Give me a break, you want him as coach, your prerogative. But don't waste your con on me, it just makes me wonder if you could identify the person facing you when looking in a mirror.
If SJU can't get Patino or Hurley it will end up a disaster.
Not necessarily. . .

It's a bit disappointing that (some) of the older alums on the board seem to have it baked in their brain that Pitino is, was, and will always be a sneak, crook, liar, cheat {fill-in-the-blank}. Is that a gut feeling you've assembled over the past few decades because his success clearly had to come at the expense of something or someone? It sure isn't based on facts. If the buck stops with numero uno, than yes, he deserved and received punishment for incidents and issues that he didn't orchestrate or participate in. It was on his watch. It was his staff. Maybe I won't score as high as some other Catholics on the test, but it gets frustrating to read comments like "doesn't match up with our Vincentian mission" as if we could read down the list of past head coaches and check that box off. He's not coming here, the school won't do it, but the negative energy spent by some is sad to read.
Pitino wouldn’t pass background check if it were done honestly. Great coach. Great tactician. Not so great person.
Why cares if he isn't such a great person if he brings us championships.
Because we're a catholic school, everyone we hire has to be all saintly?

The only two things we should care about are these 2 things.
1. Is winning.
2. Winning legit. You shouldn't have to cheat to win.

No one should care about the rest.

There are only a handful of coaches in major conferences who don't cheat. Mullin was one of them, and look where that got us. Bring on Pitino! Just cover your tracks better.)

Maybe we can get the Southern District of NY to apologize to Pitino on an episode of Billions.

I expected better from you LJ

This is funny

Pitino for sure.
Hurley’s buyout money can be used on his salary.
The garden will be rockin, the crowds will more than pay his salary.
Getting into the tourney means money. Each game advanced means more money.
His name will attract better recruits, thus competitive team.
His teams play defense, press.

Rumor has it that Matty Hoops and Tom Bradley have the lead prosecutor for the SDNY in the trunk with an apology forthcoming.

I am just telling y'all with my best fake southern accent. This situation has now crashed and burned so bad that only Rick Pitino can save us now! No way can Hurley stop this dumpster fire. No way he has no experience with what is going on now. Pitino has it as he got to Kentucky after their coach was caught paying kids! This is now a burned to the ground rebuild

Maybe Cincinnati is a school that will give Pitino his next chance.

Put down the gun!

Do we want to watch another big program sign him and have wild success, or do we want to be the one taking the chance to get ranked every year and deep tourney runs?

I also read this picturing him with a gun...and a possible hostage. The guy has style.

Gotta love you Marillac! This is now a much worse situation than when Lavin and Norm left! Sorry there is absolutely no way Hurley can fix this mess now! I dont care how many Bormans he can bring in. This is a job for the man who has done it before!! This is getting worse by the minute. Hearing Mullin is pissed...

Sure Bobby could, it's take him 4 or 5 years, but he could definitely it, but with Rick it will take 2 or 3 years.
My patience is shot.
