Pitino

Well, Pitino certainly has Dick Vitale out there promoting him and Dickie V is basically the "state media" service for Duke.

1) I applaud his enthusiasm.

2) how did he get the chloroform, ropes and body bag past the TSAs?
that was funny...spent the morning trying to find out if Cragg spoke with K, if he goes to K for advice my guess is Pitino gets atleast a conversation with Cragg. I know K thinks very highly of Rick as one of the greatest in history. Cragg is aware that Pitino wants in. Now Cragg said he wants to build an Elite level program. If he is honest about that, he atleast has to speak with Rick. If he doesn't I will not believe him. Not saying he has to hire him, but if he really wants us to be elite he needs to speak with Rick. He may find Rick to be too much damaged for his liking, but he needs to speak with him..
Seems to me the Pitino track is a dead end on a couple fronts.
First, the Administration that turned Mike Rice away will not hire Rick Pitino.
Second, Pitino is 'playing' us in the press.
To 'shout out' a demand that St. John's get the SDNY prosecutor to apologize to Rick for 'whatever' is a taunt to the school and a prop.
He does not want to coach here.
Forget Rick Pitino on those 2 counts.
Hurley please.today, one way or the other.
Then, let's move on...fast.
Not sure you have that right about Rice.
A more attractive option did come out and it was UCLA and they never called him.

Bottom line at his age with his baggage he is not getting a top of the line blue blood job. If SJU wants to take a chance it won't get better then this. Because they don't have to pry him away from a better job.

Are there downside risks absolutely.

It is all moot because it does not sound like they are interested but the point is don't get caught up in "Well he'll leave for a blue blood/top 20 job when it happens." You take that risk anyway if that is your only reason for not hiring him.
Wow you wrote something I agree with

I would donate to the Pitino Family Planning Fund if that’s what it took to get him here.

I checked out with about 3 or 4 games left in the season. I didn’t watch any of the BET or the tourney. Sadly, I even gave up on next year when I heard Cragg’s endorsement of Mullin. I came back to this board wane I heard the good news and have had to read through 8,000 posts to catch up on what’s been going on with the program.

I’m hoping we swing for the fences instead of taking a risk on a guy who faced Mullin in the play-in game.

In closing, there are Catholic priests who are less worthy of the right to walk on our campus than is Pitino. Clear the Church of pedophiles and their abettors first. Then worry about shady basketball coaches.

If Cragg hires Pitino SJU joins a club with members like Ky, Aub, Kan, Lou, Az, NC, NC St, LSU and others with a slot being held for Duke in case there is an investigation of their latest one and dones.
Some fans will view this as moving up and others will hate it.

Well all i can say is that it's all up to them.
I hope that we hire jon or cluess that only 3k goes to every game.
Then they can why the fans dont show up.
Telling you now, you keep pissing the fans off, eventually they turn on you and say fu too.

If Hurley says no I just don't see how you justify passing on Rick Pitino if he would come here. Winning isn't everything, but sometimes it is. This is one of those times. It's time to win. Hiring Pitino puts every other Big East school on notice that we mean business. Just how I feel.

You know what if Hurley says no then I’m all aboard in Rick Pitno. It will definitely be a media circus but this has to be better than Cluess and Schyner.

Also he had to recruit students to Louisville Kentucky so maybe he went a little too extra with the perks. NYC is an easier sell and maybe he won’t have to take those extremes.

So looks like NCAA put Lville on inquiry notice for the pay for play. So while the FBI didn't name Pitino NCAA is poking aorund now.
Let's all move along.

That must have been well known. The article said the notice was given a month ago. You'd think that anyone looking into Pitino would have inquired with the NCAA as to if a person they were considering hiring were under investigation.

That is old news. A judge said Pitino, no witnesses mentioned him, and no audio. The assistant coach from the tapes wanted to impress Pitino! This isn't anything at all

Not that it was ever gonna happen anyways, but I think you guys can stop wasting your time now on this pipe dream.

Jeez what a shill. Enough already. It’s not happening and it’s boring.

If Pitino had done something illegal and the FBI had evidence,Pitino would be in jail right now.Pitino is a must get for St John.He will make a lot of money for St.John and the city.Imagine sell outs at the garden with SJ against Duke Kansas Kentucky and some other bb powerhouses.Who wouldn’t like to see SJ at the final 4 At least one more time..Pitino will bring back respect for the program.Who wouldn’t want to play for one of the best coaches of all time

The worse our situation gets maybe the powers that be take what should be the obvious step and hire the best available coach, by far.

Iif anything, he'll have us good in 3yrs, but It'll be someone else and we'll suck for the next 5-6yrs.
But screw it right, what will be will be.
