Orlando Sanchez

What about any of the va tech recruits?

I'm very interested in Montrezl Harrell, if he's released from his LOI.

They may ask him to wait until they have hired a new coach which may take a while and Lavin might not be able to wait that long.

Funny auburn site says Sanchez is not committed. He's very much committed. Even Max Hooper confirmed that he was there this weekend when Sanchez committed.

I wouldn't doubt one bit they may ask him to hold off, if he wanted a release. But, he may not wanna wait around and soon ask (and, eventually granted) for a release.

mj do we have enough ships to give?
I would think the staff would want to save a ship for a big man.

You can bring him in, along with Chandler or Nolan. I remember liking Harrell's game about a year and a half ago. Check out the vids on the Greenberg thread.

my friend, who's assistant athletic director at monroe, says sanchez is not committed. he says it doesn't mean he won't commit...but it's not in the bank yet.

You mean not signed LOI, but he certainly verbally committed this weekend from all reports, even Hooper's.

That does not seem to be Lavin's style at all. I prefer not to comment on recruiting because it is generally a sleazy and demeaning process and I would agree Sanchez (or any recruit) is not a done deal until the contract (LOI) is signed but I don't believe Lavin stooped low and used that tactic.

“Since we went to the national tournament three years in a row and with these two signing at St. John’s,” Erickson said, “it puts us right in the mix as a national junior college power.”

uhmm this is a quote from Monroe assistant coach so there would be some outright publishing issues when a Monroe CC rep tells the press this, because either it is a lie on SYN's part or the coach doesn't know what he is talking about.

The commit is a done deal.. That is 100% correct and i just had to comment on the " info" you got.. Never in the history of recruiting has a fake out announcement by a coach happened to pressure a kid to actually do it.. Never that is the most absurd thing i have ever heard. He has not signed his letter yet and things do change.. but he has verballed to St john's :)

It does seems like he reads this site and JJ for info. But, do not think for one second that he doesn't have good contacts.

Mj, additional value is colleges leak things to him, knowing he has a decent readership level.

I never thought of it that way, but it makes sense.

Bingo. newsman's assertion that Zags "rips off" this stuff makes zero sense. He was the first to report it, what did he do rip off himself? He was also the first to report the trips to ProVidence, Auburn and SJU. How in the hell did he get that info?

And as Happy clearly states no program, save Booby Gonzalez, reports a commit that did not happen just to pressure a kid into doing it, that is even dumber then your earlier comment.

First it was Robbin's inventing a back page story that Norm was set to be fired, then Lenny invented a story that Harkless had decided to turn pro before he officially announced, and now Zags rips off this board on a verbal that he first reported on. It is good thing no one is under oath on these message boards.

I mentioned this in my previous post but I will elaborate further because I think it is one of the funniest and most pathetic stories you will hear regarding the always paranoid Bobby Gonzalez.

In March of 2008 Greg Echenique committed to RU and planned to enroll a year earlier then expected. This was on the heels of landing Mike Rosario earlier in the recruiting season. Now obviously this was a big score for RU and it did not go unnoticed from their hated rivals in South Orange. Literally the day Echenique committed to RU the SHU Rivals board announced a verbal from guard Chris Turner.

The date of the Echenique verbal was March 24th. On March 28th a scout.com story came out about Turner where he mentions that he wanted to visit Wake Forest, he was a North Carolina native, and was looking forward perhaps for a formal offer from them. Nowhere did he mention SHU or a supposed verbal to them. In fact he listed several schools of interest and nowhere was SHU even mentioned. Hard to believe this guy "forgot" that he verbaled to SHU 4 days earlier.

Found out later that Gonzo was SO paranoid over the good press at RU over their class he leaked a verbal from Turner (to be fair he was recruiting him) that he knew either never occurred or would never stick even if it did happen to the Rivals moderators just to blunt the good news coming from RU.

When the scout.com story came out you can imagine the SHU board was up in arms. Could not believe what happened. The moderators were basically spinning for the next week about how the staff had been told to "hold off on the verbal" after it was made public etc.

True story. I cut and pasted part of the scout.com story below:

His play has translated into some big time offers. DeaconSports.com has caught up with Turner to get a update on his season and recruitment.

Humble Christian Academy is coming off a outstanding season and so is their 6'5 shooting guard Chris Turner. Turner helped lead the Cougars to a 27-10 record, along the way averaging 19 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals per game. The one time Oregon State commit has seen his recruitment skyrocket in the past few months.

"Since I de-committed from Oregon State I have heard from Kentucky, Wake Forest, Baylor, USC, and East Carolina," Turner said. "All of those teams have offered except for Wake and Kentucky." When asked about visits Turner responded that he was slated to visit Wake Forest recently.

"I was actually supposed to visit Wake last week but my schedule did not work out so I will be headed up there in a few weeks," he said. While the Demon Deacons have yet to offer Turner, he believes they may be close to doing so. "Wake has been on me pretty hard recently. I hope when I visit there in a few weeks I will get an offer. It is my dream to play in the ACC and play back home in North Carolina. I have been away from home for a while and miss it a little bit."

When asked if Wake would be the team to beat if they offered, Turner responded that the Deacons would be hard to beat. "They would definitely be at the top. They are back home and in the ACC and that is big."
