Official Seton Hall Game Thread

Are these kids supposed to have perfect possessions every single play? Damn there's a lot of criticizing going on. We're still in this, lets keep grinding.

Finally someone said it. I just read most the game thread comments now b/c I got home late from the game. Some of you guys really need to understand that the game is 40 minutes long. I know sometimes we post things during the heat of the game but I'm worried for 2 or 3 posters on here who might get a stroke soon if they don't take it down a notch, especially in the first half of games LOL. On the other hand, we may be the most passionate board in all of college hoops. FYI, not sure if this was mentioned already but they announced at the start of the game that fans could move down to better seats, so we all converged behind the SJU bench.

Well this game tonight taught me alot about these kids.
Yes the Creighton game was huge, but we all knew they would be up for that game.
Tonight, I was alittle worried that they`d be full of themselves, and look past SHU.
Tonight was business like, I like seeing that.

Celebrate tonight, but tomorrow practice for G-Town.
LETS KEEP A GREAT THING GOING, IT FEELS GOOD.

Hey Jack, was that better grammer, Mr. English professor?

Nope

One big negative I took away from the game last night was Sanchez on defense. Man was he bad or what??? The drop off defensively when subbing Obekpa for Sanchez was terrible. He just sleeps on the defensive end. It was bad to watch.

Awesome pass, fantastic win! These guys now know how to close under pressure. Bring on Georgetown!

It's funny because it isn't 100% consensus, but a lot of coaches love the bounce pass, because to get it by defenders it's naturally a lot lower. It also bounces up to the recipient making it easy to catch and shoot. Some coaches like an aerial pass, the old fashioned chest pass, because it gets there faster. Obviously the circumstance should rule. In this case, the bounce pass was perfectly executed.

Teammates are going to begin to realize that if they cut and get open, then Rysheed will find them. That, along with his exuberance, was the change the Magic Johnson brought to the Lakers. If you are open, if you cut, you'd better be ready for a pass, because he will find you.

BTW that should have been an intentional foul. There was no play on the ball just an intentional shove on the back.

In basketball, a flagrant foul is a serious personal foul. A foul is considered flagrant when it involves excessive or violent contact which could injure the fouled player. It is distinct from an intentional foul, which is a tactic permitted within the game as long as the foul is not considered flagrant.

Dom is one of the few on the team who doesn't take any plays off. He's not an all american. So what? If the others wanted it as much as Dom, we'd be in the top ten right now.

Umm...actually Dom takes every single shot off on offense. He doesn't even attempt to get offensive rebounds. Once in a while one will bounce to him, but he'll never go for one. You saw what Jordan did at the end by charging in the lane from the three point line to wrestle away that offensive rebound? Dom wouldn't have moved an inch or awkwardly jumped in place. That's not hustle...that is lazy. We could live without Jordan putting in the extra effort because he is a PG and has a bigger responsibility to get back on defense...but Dom's lack of hustle is really hurting this team.

On defense he gives up too easy as well. As soon as he's beat he stands up straight and lets his man go by him looking for a block. He never plays screens right either....he runs around them instead of staying close to his man and going over top. It's lazy across the board and he doesn't like contact.

Maybe it is time to accept Dom makes some exciting plays now and then, including steals and dunks. He is an abysmal ball handler & shooter, prone to less than cerebral play. Once thought he could evolve into a Postell type player, but that's not happening. Accept he is a average bench player who can excite you occasionally, but more often than not he disappoints.

obviously intentional fouls are committed all the time to extend games but when a guy is going up for a layup or dunk and is shoved in the back that is different then fouling a guy in the backcourt and Obepka did take a pretty good fall.

Guess some people are never happy, even after a win.

Too bad, but from what I've read in a number of threads on this forum, insider information has it that both guys involved in this play -- CO and Lawrence -- will be transferring at the end of year. Hmm. Keep wondering where they'll both end up.

I'm guessing this was sarcasm based on all of those threads that popped up a couple of months ago with people guaranteeing Rysheed and Obepka were transfering.

According to the NCAA rule book, a Flagrant 1 foul occurs when a player "swings an elbow and makes non-excessive contact with an opponent above the shoulders."

I no your ok with looking silly now and then because Dom gonna come up big. U root for the team, you happy. Second game in a row he changed the feel of the first half when things were going south. He got to the rim twice to shave 4 off the halls halftme lead when others had their hands in their pockets. I don't knock the kids because they not perfect but likley to help win games in the next half or down the pike. Against Creighton he helped us to a lead in the first half at a time Creighton already had the shovels out. But like all the guy, he's not perfect. Did anybody think it smart to slam Harrison down the stretch. I love him with the ball in his hands, but far from good down the stretch. No doubt CO was not pleasing all until he won the game for us. We need everybody. If my posts irritating I will stop posting if you all would like.

This was such a painful experience to watch for 39 minutes, fortunately we escaped with post season aspirations intact. I'm glad the boys found a way to win, this game had letdown written all over it and the narrative of this thread midway through the game reflected that (along with who the authors that were posting :cheer: ). I don't think SH did us a great favor to have two starters benched, as we clearly game planned for something else while they threw the kitchen sink at us as far as defensive looks. We were terribly sloppy with the ball, which is correctable, but the rebounding/second chance points were a bit more alarming. In any event, a win on the road in conference is all that matters. After all, if any of you were watching Creighton vs. Butler, the team that needed the bounce back game (and is clearly superior) is lucky to leave that gym with a win. I can't remember a more important game versus Georgetown in recent years. I booked a trip for the Big East tourney so I won't be able to be there on Sunday but I hope supporters are able to attend, this game feels like an elimination game.

so for future reference you don't need to make a play on the ball when a guy is going up for a dunk? A push in the back is fine?

It took the staff 24 games to realize it so welcome to my world. Primo plays with no fire in his belly and is less than cerebral on offense. It is pretty sad when a guy who is 6'9" has to sit in favor of a 6'1" Phil Greene who is mismatched every game but I hope he starts bringing it in practice so we do not have suffer too much Greene or Pointer.

Some good analysis of Dom by a few posters here...I thought he would evolve into a different player as well. He had some key offensive plays last night, and played well within his offensive boundries. As many have mentioned, his basketball IQ and ball handling are consistently poor, and his rep as a lock down defender is overblown. He has an important role as a bench player on the team, and I feel like we need to take the good with the bad, and not rely on him for things we had "hoped" he could be. I was actually excited to see Green getting ready to come in for Dom towards the end of the game, but after a good play from Dom, Green sat back down. In the end, it worked out, we won, but I get an uneasy feeling with Dom on the floor down the stretch in a close game.

No, I was very clear that I was ecstatic that we pulled the game out. I did however re watch the game this morning, and saw something that I thought I should share with the board. That being Sanchez poor play on the defensive end.

A win is a win. We got the win and that's all that matters. But to think we played a great or even a good game is just silly. We did things wrong last night and on a forum of St. John's basketball fans, I thought it would be good to discuss those things.

Even when we win, there are things to improve upon, and when we lose, there are positives as well. I'm not one of those posters to pretend everything is fine because we won, but at the same time I'm not one to pretend the world is over when we lose.

There is nothing wrong with discussing what we need to do better, but I agree that there are people who are negative for the sake of being negative.

The season is looking a lot better right now than it did a month ago, and if you want to label me a pessimist because I pointed out bad defense by Orlando, than so be it. I will not lose sleep over it, believe me.
