Official 2014-2015 Schedule Thread

Kind of funny that maven breaks this duke story and his son was the main person in the thread bitching about the sos. Glad duke is back on the schedule.

yea thats funny - a real knee slapper.
it would be more logical to beat up on the cream puffs than schedule games that will help our NCAA resume.
totally invalid complaint by me

Is pops working to broker a UK-SJ matchup?

I think it's funny. The least you could have done was leave the basement long enough to ask dad about this, since you have had the biggest issue about the schedule. And all we asked from you was to cool your heels and let the schdule play out first.

huh? what basement are u talking about?
I will be the first one to say that its great that we have Duke again next yea rand the SOS is way better than it was a week ago.
I still would like to see another big OOC game since we wont have the in conference strength of schedule like we used to....i feel much better now though that this game is good to go

I give you credit. You have an uncanny talent to put words and ellipsis together to in an attempt to give a non-response. The issue with you is that you railed against the lousy schedule before the schedule was put together. And less than a week later, we read from someone you may be familiar with, that Duke is on it. Overall, the schedule is very solid.

Hit's non-responsiveness is copyrighted. LOL! Not sure how much intel the Maven shares with him since the Maven still shares cigars with Lav while Hit is a health enthusiast who hits the gym regularly. :p

Like them all, Tulane returns their two leading scorers, two leading assist men, and two leading rebounders. St marys is always a good squad and returns their best player. Long beach returns their 4 best players which include two pretty solid transfers and a couple kids from the NYC area. Schedule is shaping up nicely.

I assume one or both of California teams will be return games and will play them on way out or back from Maui following season.

Just a guess (someone in the know can correct me on it):

You are probably right re: Long Beach St. I'm guessing that St. Mary's is considered a return matchup from Lavin's first year.

Is Tulane at Barclay's the December event we've competed in the last two years?

@JonRothstein: St. John's will host both Saint Mary's + Long Beach State next yr + also play Tulane at the Barclays Center, source told @CBSSports. #sjubb

Tulane has a large NY area alumni base. Let's hope they don't outdraw us at Barclay's like Penn State.

Tulane has nowhere near the alum base if penn state in nyc. I would guess less than 1/10th. I know one Tulane alum vs dozen of penn state people.

I have to believe the Tulane game will be packaged as part of a double or triple header similar to Columbia last year. The Barclays games did not draw well last year.

Yes, but Penn St alums don't GAF about hoops, true?

I don't think Tulane alums do either. Hasn't exactly been a basketball powerhouse.

But they care about drinking and this is an excuse to drink!

True. But tell that to Louie, Malik, Rob, Jason, Chucky and Terrence.

Ugggg I was 10 years old when that game took place. It was my first year watching SJU. I got into it because my older brother was a freshman that year at the school and I'd watch and listen to the games with him. Remember going to MSG and Alumi Hall for my first ever basketball games. Great times. Wish I was 10 again.

I have lost some memories, so I don't remember that game. When was that? I did note that Tulane beat us in 2007 and Tulane played at Barclays last year the day we played Columbia, so they must be interested in playing in NY.

The game he was referencing was in the 1992 NCAA Tournament. We were a 7 seed and were defeated in the opening round against Tulane. It was also Louie's last game as our coach and the last game of Malik's career as at SJU.

My senior year at SJU. Brutal game. There were high expectations for that team, since they were senior dominated and made a nice elite eight run the year before.

But the team never really clicked that year. Injuries (especially Werdann who was never 100 percent) slowed them down and the loss of Billy Singleton to graduation. He was a leader and a glue guy. His absence was really missed. Sealy and the other seniors were not vocal take charge guys.

I think it's funny how the next year's team, which was way less talented wound up having a better season. I know no one expected David Cain to be as good as he was, but the talent dropped a lot from the 92 team to the 93 team and the 93 team still managed to wind up doing better. I still would have liked to have beaten Arkansas and gotten a shot at UNC in the Meadowlands in 93.....

Also, after his brilliant play in the NCAA tournament the year before (and he was great), somebody got into Jason Buchannan's ear re: the nba. He knew he needed to drastically improve his outside shot to have any chance of that, and proceeded to shoot the team out of many games that year. His performance really went downhill.

Buchannan had the flattest line drive shot I've ever seen. My friends and I used to joke that every shot that actually got higher than the rim went in.
