Official 2014-2015 Schedule Thread

@SammyAlbano: @StJohnsBBall playing NIT Tipoff, Syracuse & Duke returns on sked @TheGarden Jan 31,2015 in addition to 18 game @BIGEASTMBB slate

Okafor vs Obekpa

Interesting...

@AdamZagoria: Per @SammyAlbano Duke & St. John's will play in Jan at MSG. #sjubb 's Mark Fratto says "Nothing has been finalized at this time."

I'm going to believe Mr. Albano over Mr. Fratto on this one. I've always assumed he had connections with higher-ups at MSG, ones who would know why certain dates are blocked out.

Nothing to read into Fratto's comments. They are probably just crossing the T's, and dotting the I's.

Kind of funny that maven breaks this duke story and his son was the main person in the thread bitching about the sos. Glad duke is back on the schedule.

Exactly, Fratto is speaking in a OFFICIAL capacity. He does not have the authority to comment on something until it is official.

He is not an independent blogger. He works for SJU.

yea thats funny - a real knee slapper.
it would be more logical to beat up on the cream puffs than schedule games that will help our NCAA resume.
totally invalid complaint by me

Is pops working to broker a UK-SJ matchup?

I think it's funny. The least you could have done was leave the basement long enough to ask dad about this, since you have had the biggest issue about the schedule. And all we asked from you was to cool your heels and let the schdule play out first.

huh? what basement are u talking about?
I will be the first one to say that its great that we have Duke again next yea rand the SOS is way better than it was a week ago.
I still would like to see another big OOC game since we wont have the in conference strength of schedule like we used to....i feel much better now though that this game is good to go

I'd like to see top 50 schools on the schedule. It seems if you loose a close game to the number 1 team in the country you get penalized, but if you win a close game against the 49th ranked school you get rewarded.

I would also like to see Kentucky and/or Ohio st on the schedule.
This is not a youth training year. This will be one of the most experienced teams in the country & the most talented team in the BE and should realistically have final-4 as their goal. They should therefore schedule like a team that has final-4 aspirations and not like a timid young team that doesnt know yet what it has.

I would like to see us continue to play in a tournament each pre-season as well as at least 4 games against "BCS" type schools
I would prefer to see short term 2 year home and home contracts with schools from as many different conferences as possible
This way, we would play more schools from different conferences throughout the nation like we did before the Big East was formed

Can't help yourself, huh?

lets put the knicks on the schedule so no one could complain. I guess nets fans might complain though

Is the schedule announced or set in stone yet? We had OOC games against 2 top 3 seeds this year. Unfortunately our Barclays Classic had cupcakes for big conference teams in it (one of whom we lost to). We had a decent SOS this past year. If we have Cuse, Minnesota, and Gonzaga, then I think one more top 25 caliber team would be a very very solid OOC. Sure not the toughest possible, but it'd be very solid. I think adding a Pac 12 team would be a great idea. As for Avon's suggestion, of UConn, I think that's a terrible idea. Uconn and Syracuse turn out more fans than we do at MSG...we should be making these true HOME games against marquee programs, so I say target top programs who won't dilute the St. John's/NY rooting contingent for our side...adding say Louisville and Oregon or something like that would be ideal, IMO. Obviously part of the goal is filling MSG too so I'm fine with one of UConn and Syracuse, but adding both is almost like adding 2 tough road games...home and home games with those schools, until we become a consistent winner (unless?), are really all games where we our guys feel like there's no support for them in the stands. Sad but true.

Your point is well taken but is a game against Oregon where we will get 7,000 in MSG or a game against the defending champion UConn in a sold-out MSG more attractive to a prospective recruit?

Agreed the latter is, but only if we win. I'm obviously biased here but would rather play Duke again if we are adding back another program who fills MSG. we actually have shown success against them at MSG even though they turn out the fans too, plus I think NY gets behind rooting against Duke and for St Johns, whereas Uconn and Cuse the average new yorker probably prefers to st johns right now, unfortunately.

Duke wont schedule us any more because they can play in MSG other ways than scheduling SJU.

So was this conjecture or does duke have other reasons for scheduling us besides so that they can play in NY? Either way I think we both agree this is a great add to the schedule for both the team sos/rpi and a big time game to get fans to attend.

@JonRothstein: St. John's will host both Saint Mary's + Long Beach State next yr + also play Tulane at the Barclays Center, source told @CBSSports. #sjubb

Tulane has a large NY area alumni base. Let's hope they don't outdraw us at Barclay's like Penn State.

That is a great schedule in my opinion when you include Duke, Syracuse, Then 2 out of 3 - Gonzaga, Minnesota, and Georgia.

All will give us a boost in RPI.

I assume one or both of California teams will be return games and will play them on way out or back from Maui following season.
