“@LennyVangilder: Buried in Raftery to Fox Sports 1 announcement: new Big East will open league play with 5-game marathon on New Year's Eve.”

“@LennyVangilder: In order: St. John's at Xavier, Seton Hall at Providence, DePaul at Georgetown, Villanova at Butler, Marquette at Creighton.”

The 3 new kids on the block get a home game, hmmm. ; )

It's easy to see why. The home teams in these games are all ones that don't have NBA/NHL conflicts in their home arenas (The Boston Bruins have a minor league team play at DDC, but I believe the Friars have first rights). So, the league could go ahead with this announcement right now, given the locations. Only Depaul is a "non-conflict" team opening on the road.

So, if the league wants to do this every year, and make the announcement around this time, we will likely never start the conference season at home. However, that is the way I prefer it. If you open at home, you have to win that first game. There's enough of a circus going on already, so opening on the road relieves a bit of the pressure, IMO. It's great if you can win it, but it's not the "must-win" that a home opener would be.

Quoting myself here, so that you may all see how big of an idiot I am. Georgetown is playing at home that day, throwing my theory totally out of the water.

Maybe NYCRedman was right, and a "bone" was thrown to the newbies, but I don't know how much of a bone it really is, since as I said earlier, I'd rather start conference play on the road.

Just win!! Time to step at home and on the road. Can't win them all, but we have the horses to do some damage this year.

Can't blame the BE for wanting it loud to kick off the league. Butler, Creighton, and Xavier are all loud and will be sold out. Would MSG be sold out for the opener?

Good point about the sellout issue, I'm sure the "New 3" are more pumped about having the remaining Big East schools go to their place & I am sure the joints will be packed. In the end it doesn't matter, as Paultzman said, just win. We'd have to play there at some point either way now that we have round robin scheduling so lets just take care of business.

Three guaranteed sellouts. I hope the fans knocking Creighton watch. That arena is f*cking ridiclous and there will be 17000+ screaming and yelling.

They've also accomplished a lot more than SJU has in many many years. The real question with Creighton is, sure they should be good this year with McDermott, but can they really sustain that kind of play when he graduates? Will they really be able to bring in guys of that caliber right away? I'd be highly skeptical.

The toughest part is that Nebraska doesn't produce any top players, and I suspect that if it did Kansas would swoop in and take them. But I think being in the BE will allow them to grab decent kids. I don't know much about their recruiting, but I suspect Illinois might be a good place for them to make connections, as well as Texas.

Marshall Henderson and Ole Miss will play in Brooklyn at Barclays Classic Nov. 29-30. St. John's, Ga Tech and Penn State also in the field.

Ole Miss will be incredibly weaker if he's still suspended. Good for us but less excitement at Barclays if so.

@HKellenbergerCL: Marshall Henderson has been suspended indefinitely from Ole Miss for a violation of team rules, the school announced.

Selfishly I would love to see them come to Richmond and take on either VCU or U of R. It was great to see them come to UVA last year even though they lost!

I was actually looking forward to seeing fireworks between Marshall Henderson and D'Lo, two of the most volatile personalities in college basketball a the same position. That was looking to be quite a game of horse...

Are you intimating that Henderson would cause Dlo a few eye rolls? :)

Update: game time for the Saturday, Dec 28 St. John's tilt vs Columbia in the Brooklyn Hoops Winter Festival is 3PM. #sjubb #stjbb

According to the men's basketball twitter page, full non-conference schedule may be released later today, or tomorrow.

It wouldn't shock me to see Henderson play in that game
In fact, it would surprise me if he didn't
