Official 2013-2014 Schedule Thread

Here's the official non-conference schedule (via the twitter page):

Looks like 19 home games total this year (conference games and exhibitions included).

Some interesting challanges, though I'm not too keen about playing Dartmouth in the middle of January. IMO, not great overall. Better then last year's, but we better not be a bubble team (I think we'll do better anyway).

Very underwhelming schedule. We better be firmly in the tournament by Selection Sunday not a lot of RPI helpers on top of a weaker overall conference. It looks like Syracuse's schedule that I make fun of every year. Leaving NY once in non-conference?

Dartmouth??

Looks like Lavin said 20+ wins or bust.

He's not taking any chances this year.

They better not have any OOC slip ups because our SOS is going to be putrid.

I really don't think it's a soft schedule. It's not an exceptionally hard schedule but a neutral against Wisconsin, a game vs Cuse, then Ole Miss/Ga. Tech and PSU are 4 high major games, 3 of which are neutral court games. That's better than many teams we could compete for bids with will end up with.

I'd like to think Lavin knows 20+ wins isn't a magic number.

Some of these teams look like nice challenges if we were playing them last year.

Bucknell lost Muscala as well as two other seniors who averaged double figures and 30+ minutes a night

Wagner loses Jonathan Williams

The Barclays Center Championship is one of the weaker preseason tournaments of the year.

Less than impressed

Last year Boise St. made it as an at large and their only high major OOC games were Creighton, Michigan State and LSU. La Salle made it as an at large with 3 high major OOC games. Take care of business and we will be fine.

When do we ever take care of business?

What's taking care of business? Worst case 11-2 after Dartmouth? There is always a slip up. UNC-Asheville last year, Northeastern the year before that, St. Bonnies and Fordham the year before that

I think it's a pretty week non conference schedule. There's no reason for why we shouldn't have 20+ wins next season.
Also, do you guys think Lavin scheduled so many home games so that he can get many recruits on visits?

I agree with most here. There is very little room for error, if we lose to teams like Wagner, Bucknell, Dartmouth, etc, it really hurts us. If we win it doesn't really help us as far as RPI goes. Wisconsin & Syracuse suddenly become much bigger games.

It might not be as bad as it appears at first glance. Don't forget, the RPI handsomely rewards teams for wins on the road and on neutral courts. Wisconsin is a road game, and the Barclays games are neutral court. Wins there will give St. John's a very nice RPI if it takes care of business in the conference tournament.

2009-2010 our only nonconference losses were to Duke and Cornell (who made the Sweet 16). Look at that schedule if you want to see a weak schedule. This year's schedule is not weak.

I'm convinced our fans will complain about anything. Last year we played 2 high-major OOC games. Both of those teams missed the tournament. Lavin eliminated the road game against a small-time team in which we've lost each of the last three years and replaced it with a neutral game against a perennial tournament team. This schedule is infinitely better than last years and is not a bad schedule compared to our peers.

Last year this team was comprised of freshmen and sophomores. There wasn't even a single returning upperclassmen. The team lacked size, experience, and strength. This year's squad is very, very different. There are no excuses this year, and I really don't think there will be any need for them either.

As a fan I like the chances of getting 20+ wins.....but as a season ticket holder I question why I spend so much money for 6-7 games I have zero interest in. I Dont think we a have any chance of big crowds for any of those games. None of those games will create a Buzzzzz on campus. If we get upset...the place will be empty. I think we could have pushed the envelope a bit more.

Don't get season tickets then. Pick and choose the games you want to go to. I think we've seen over the years how there is no advantage to season tickets really.

Making a schedule isn't easy. It takes two to tango. Dates have to match for starters, who is paying what, is there a reciprocal game.

I post my favorite link again. Check out all these teams still looking to fill games on their schedule.

This is very true. Put Duke, North Carolina, Connecticut, Kansas and Kentucky on the schedule, there will still be complaints. I like seeing teams like Youngstown State, Longwood, and Monmouth on the schedule, simply because they are new for us to play. I wouldn't want to see them every year, but I'll take them over St. Francis (NY) and NJIT any day. What's wrong with 3 cupcakes on the schedule? 4 if you count Dartmouth.

It seems like Lavin would like to get some recruiting inroads into Louisiana. A game at LSU or even Tulane instead of home against Longwood would have been my preference. Actually, anything would have been my preference over home against Longwood.
