Off Season Tidbits

The new uniforms look great! Very clean and retro look. I'm excited to see what else is in store for SJU and its Nike products.

Not trying to start WWIII here, just figured many of you would be interested. A recent former player gave me some insight on the Mullin era. Apparently Mullin showed up late consistently, no one on the staff even tried except St. Jean (who still wasn't very good but at least tried) and Matt A. Mitch really did do nothing as we suspected. Noted that the staff were good guys but clueless overall. Disorganized, dysfunctional, etc. Also noted that staff left immediately after the NCAA loss and that was the last they saw of them. Just ridiculous really. The former player also said that he thinks this current staff is very good and a massive improvement. Just interesting to hear directly FWIW.
Sounds like you listened to the Phavre Phan podcast
who is that Phavre guy ? He went to school at SJU ? That's the first podcast I have ever listened to in my life. Goodman was a good sport on it. I hate him slightly less. Does this Phavre guy have huge twitter following ?

Am I crazy or does it look like Mustapha has really trimmed down since last season? Would be great if the addition of size (Steer, Sears, etc) lets him play exclusively on the wing. A more comfortable Heron playing his natural position would seem to be a significant step towards us being competitive this season.

He has.
Seriously can't believe it has taken this long for the school to hire a sports nutritionist. This is what it looks like to have a real AD who understands how to win.
The new AD is doing great things. This is not the first sports nutritionist. They have had several. This was their first one who left for UNC and then went to the Miami Dolphins.

Mike Anderson's system has meant a new conditioning schedule for @StJohnsBBall. Mustapha Heron on 5 AM runs: "I'm actually an early riser. I love it. It's not easy, but it's what we need to do to be ready." #SJUBB

Zach B:

Three days a week Mike Anderson takes team on track for 5 AM runs

I can’t even get out of bed at 5am except to go to the bathroom and I’m 10 years younger than CMA

That’s probably because you are up to 4am drinking pale ales or pisco sours.

Temple under John Chaney would have 5:30 a.m. practices. Seemed to work out great for them most years.

Another positive......When you have 5 am practices, it's easy to see whose partying in season.

I wake up at 5 AM five days a week. Info run on a track zero times of week and if I didn’t have a bad hip, I still wouldn’t be running around around the Track especially at that time.

But his assistants ran the beginning of practice. He usually go there later.

Not for nothing, at least one of our former coaches had practice prior to the start of classes.

He has them running at that time, but are the practices going to be at that time?

DJ Kennedy has signed the contract with Pinar Karsiyaka for the next three months with option for the following six months, a source told Sportando.

QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 26, 2019) – The St. John’s Athletics Department in conjunction with The Beck Foundation joined forces with Hope 4 Hope Town and hosted a week-long clothing and shoe drive to support Hurricane Dorian relief efforts. Hope 4 Hope Town, an organization headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is committed to assisting with a rebuild of the Northern Bahamas in the aftermath of the category five storm that struck in early September.

St. John’s student-athletes, coaches, staff and members of the community donated more than 50 boxes of apparel weighing in at nearly 1,500 pounds to support those in need in the Bahamas. As part of the initiative, the Red Storm offered additional incentive to rally behind the worthy cause by offering fans who donated new or gently used clothing items and shoes complimentary admission to men’s and women’s soccer matches at Belson Stadium earlier this season.

Upon conclusion of the drive, the St. John’s equipment and operations staff and members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee organized, packaged and coordinated delivery of the goods to a local UPS store to send to Hope 4 Hope Town headquarters who were handling delivery and distribution in the Bahamas.
