Off Season Tidbits

Nice to see the old UA gear being put to good use.
QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 26, 2019) – The St. John’s Athletics Department in conjunction with The Beck Foundation joined forces with Hope 4 Hope Town and hosted a week-long clothing and shoe drive to support Hurricane Dorian relief efforts. Hope 4 Hope Town, an organization headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is committed to assisting with a rebuild of the Northern Bahamas in the aftermath of the category five storm that struck in early September.

St. John’s student-athletes, coaches, staff and members of the community donated more than 50 boxes of apparel weighing in at nearly 1,500 pounds to support those in need in the Bahamas. As part of the initiative, the Red Storm offered additional incentive to rally behind the worthy cause by offering fans who donated new or gently used clothing items and shoes complimentary admission to men’s and women’s soccer matches at Belson Stadium earlier this season.

Upon conclusion of the drive, the St. John’s equipment and operations staff and members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee organized, packaged and coordinated delivery of the goods to a local UPS store to send to Hope 4 Hope Town headquarters who were handling delivery and distribution in the Bahamas.

It may have been an argument at the time. No NY connections. He has hired a nice staff w NY ties , and is spending time getting to know the NY coaches. We are already getting NY recruits. When all is said and done Goodman’s concern will be a non factor IMO.

This is the same college basketball expert (lives, sleeps & eats basketball) who claims he never heard of our newest recruit even though he is a pre-season first team JUCO AA - One of those guys where you take it as a compliment if he's critical of you.

Exactly, looking at the mouth moving when talking I'm like yo wtf, his face is all messed up.

I’ve never understood why anyone thinks that the SJU coach needs to have deep ties to the 5 boroughs. I get it, it helps to have the connections. However, it’s the 21st century. Many current programs have recruiters who have connections in NY or any other hoops hotbed. Exactly what Anderson did. Hired some NY connection guys. That thinking seems to so often be applied to St. John’s and is a lazy, knee jerk take.

The thinking is from a long by gone era before cell phones and the internet. By the way, with that way of thinking no NY bred Coach could ever coach anywhere else. I mean Pitino didn’t have any Louisville connections. Plenty of other examples but it’s flat out stupid and antiquated thinking.

There was a time when the NBA had protected territories whereby you had territorial rights to guys who were from your area

Big tournament this weekend in Montréal so a few low mid major coaches were in attendance. One who has been coming up for a few years saw me and came over to sit with me during my son’s game. 3 things he said which are of interest to SJU fans.
1. Dunn should get a waiver to play right away. No guarantees but as certain as possible.
2. Dunn Will start at the point as he is much better than Rutherford.
3. CMA is a damn good coach. Went on to tell me that he has never had a loosing season which is a huge accomplishment. That was in case I did not know. Lol.
So all in all only had positive things to say about SJU.
The only negative was how high he is on Tyrese Samuel of Seton Hall who he feels can be a pro down the road. To me that was very disheartening as I know Tyrese since he played with my son in the third grade and I told the former staff about him before he blew up. And even after he blew up no one could find the time to take a 55 minute flight from LaGuardia to Montreal to speak with the kid in person.

Obviously his review is solely connected to the events in April. Wonder what his thoughts are now ?
His thoughts are the same. He doesn’t like CMA. Arkansas fans have affirmed that he’s has a hard on for CMA forever.
