This is pretty crazy

I believe Willie played regularly at 2b that year, but wasn’t in that particular lineup.

With peak or near peak Henderson, peak Donnie and others, that team’s problem wasn’t offense. After Gator and Rags in the pen, I believe the pitching was short. People forget how many games that group won, because with no WC they didn’t make the playoffs. It wasn’t until later in the 80s the Yanks really started to fall off.  Looking at the roster you can see some of the shortcomings in how Big Stein built rosters, since he was still actively calling the shots. The mid/late 80s are the “what if” generation for me as a Yankee fan (given my age) because we traded so much from a bountiful farm system often chasing bad fits or “name” veterans instead. Just look at some of the arms and young talent the Yanks parted with in that era.

The regular starters based on GP were

Wynegar
Mattingly
Randolph
Meachum
Pags
Griffey
Henderson
Winfield
Baylor

Rotation was

Guidry
Niekro
Cowley
Whitson
Rasmussen

A couple of things regarding the streak.

On August 4th of 1985, Tom Seaver won his 300th career game at Yankee Stadium, to drop the Yankees record to 56-47 that season.  At the end of this win on September 10th, they were 85-52, meaning they went 29-5, over a 34-game stretch.  The current Yankees are 23-5 over their last 28 games.  Unfortunately, the 85 team went only 12-12 the rest of the way.

Also, the Yankees had a 11-game winning streak in 1998, but MLB doesn't recognize it.  They won their last 7 regular season games that year, then swept Texas in the ALDS, before defeating Cleveland in game one of the ALCS.  That adds up to 11, but nobody mentions that, because MLB considers the postseason to be separate.

He should be.  This ump is making Eric Gregg's performance in that NLCS game with Livan Hernandez all those years ago look good.

game 127 plus plus
full disclosure - went night night after 5 1/2 innings with score tied.
i missed #99's heroics
i have been admiring boone's quick hook, but he stayed with taillon way too long.
the only quick hook was - blue around boone's neck.,

Keep it going....

Nice job by the Loasiga, Holmes and Chapman. Thought Taillon got a bit wary of the strike zone after the A's homer's. Stopped attacking it. Nice to get out to the early lead, but boy, did it go away fast. DJLM looked a bit jumpy in the box. Nice to have Urshela back.

Too bad Tampa plays the Zeros this weekend.

game 128.
stanton en fuego
loooooooooooou. almost back to back.. almost belly to belly.
#99 makes it a trifecta.
goodnite sweetheart i have to go ...to sleep.

The Yankees are one hot ball club. Just hope when they finally have the inevitable cooling off period it is not for too long of a stretch.

All World Series Champions, I think.

Been watching the games the morning after. Don't check my phone or email. This streak is making for some really nice days, and nights!!

game 128.
tomorrow, tomorrow the win will come out tomorrow.
tomorrow is only a starting pitcher away.

the odor eater at 3rd experiment has to end.
the big g had his first outfield misadventure.

tough to lose a great streak by a run with one of oak's runs coming on a balk.

the umps made the first part of the game unwatchable.

#99 - the yanks mvp - worthy of a lifetime contract.

Certainly all good things must come to an end. But I hate sloppy losses with little hitting. Boy, this replay process stinks. Agree that I never  want to see Odor at third base again. I thought Rizzo did not have a particularly good game at first, either. And Stanton got a bit lost on that fly ball. Maybe they got all the crap out of their systems after playing pretty flawlessly the past 2 week. Geez, Judge is on fire. Boone better not sit him tomorrow.

Sunday's games of importance:

Tampa Bay (Archer - 0-1, 4.26) at Baltimore (Watkins - 2-6, 7.07) - 1:05 PM

Boston (Houck - 0-3, 3.43) at Cleveland (Morgan - 2-6, 5.98) - 1:10 PM

Toronto (Berrios - 8-7, 3.70) at Detroit (Boyd - 3-6, 3.44) - 1:10 PM

Kansas City (Singer 3-9, 5.07) at Seattle (Gonzales - 5-5, 4.13) - 4:10 PM

Yankees (Montgomery - 5-5, 3.69) at Oakland (Blackburn - 0-1, 4.09) - 7:08 PM

After a 13 game winning streak, Yanks have lost 2 in a row in sloppy, non-hitting fashion. Back to the way they played a lot of the season. This kind of play might get them to a wildcard game, but not much further. Again the defense was very suspect. If it wasn't for Gardner, they would have lost by a lot more. Where have the bats gone again? Defense? Why did the Yanks allow Kemp to produce every night? And how can Green be trusted with all the home runs he gives up? Need to right the ship starting tomorrow night. Very disappointing end to the series.
