NY YANKEES - 2021

Heaney does not look good enough to pitch in the minors. Hopefully this will be the last time we see him.

Great comeback but can Britton get the job done?????? OF COURSE NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When he first came back, he was giving up hits and runs, but I thought he would turn it around, because he was still getting ground balls at his usual rate.  Unfortunately, he's gone the other way.

You have to wonder if he came back from injury too soon, and is only not on the IL, because we have so many guys there to begin with.

Would have been better doing nothing in the ninth inning, and losing 7-4, IMO.

P.S. 2-3 since Rizzo went on the COVID IL.  8-1 when he was in the lineup.  I know this loss was not on the offense, but man does he make this whole team better, especially the infield defense.

Crushing defeat after battling all the way back. If Heaney could figure out how to pitch with 2 outs, he might be useful. Hopefully with some starters coming back, we may not see him again. Had no confidence in Stanton there, but he came through. Why Stanton and not Loasiga in the ninth? They both had about the same number of pitches yesterday. Britton always walks a batter. Great game by Judge.

Friday's games of importance:

Baltimore (Watkins - 2-3, 4.22) at Boston (Pivetta - 8-5, 4.34) - 7:10 PM

Oakland (Irvin - 8-10, 3.45) at Texas (Dunning - 5-7, 4.07) - 8:05 PM

Tampa Bay (McClanahan - 6-4, 3.75) at Minnesota (Pineda - 4-7, 3.83) - 8:10 PM

Toronto (Ray - 9-5, 2.90) at Seattle (Flexen - 10-5, 3.81) - 10:10 PM

Pitchers like Heaney are the reason teams prefer using openers and/or bullpen games.  When the alternative is someone like him, it makes sense.

Plate umpire sucks.
There were two 80s baseball movie honored tonight.

Field of Dreams obviously, but also The Naked Gun with how long it took this guy to call a strike.

That's not why we lost though.

game 115.
game was lost when lineup cards were exchanged.
sox starter era was slightly above 2. yanks starter era was slightly above infinity.
did anyone not think the yanks would soon be in a hole deeper than a florida sinkhole?
one of the crappiest down, up, a loss in yankee history.
glad to see bronx bombers back.
maybe heaney can moonlight as a iowa scarecrow.
he did shake up some crows by giving up 3 gettys.
gardy did make me eat crow yesterday.
great to see wade again producing.

Saturday's games of importance:

Baltimore (Jo. Lopez - 3-12, 5.75) at Boston (Sale - Season Debut) - 4:10 PM

Oakland (Kaprielian - 6-4, 3.22) at Texas (Lyles - 5-9, 5.46) - 7:10 PM

Tampa Bay (TBA) at Minnesota (Maeda - 5-4, 4.69) - 7:10 PM

Yankees (Taillon - 7-4, 3.82) at White Sox (Cease - 9-6, 3.99) - 7:10 PM

Toronto (Ryu - 11-5, 3.62) at Seattle (Kikuchi - 7-6, 3.73) - 10:10 PM

2 things are obvious right now:

1.  This bullpen can't be trusted to hold a lead of any length going into the last inning of a game,

and:

2. When they do blow it (because it's not a question of if right now), it won't kill the spirit of this team, or their will to win.  Even when they lose a game because of it (thankfully, that didn't happen tonight), they'll come back strong the next game.

Sunday's games of importance:

Baltimore (Aiken - 0-6, 8.23) at Boston (E. Rodriguez - 8-6, 5.24) - 1:10 PM

Tampa Bay (Patino - 2-3. 4.64) at Minnesota (C. Barnes - 0-2, 6.08) - 2:10 PM

Yankees (Cortes - 0-1, 2.70) at White Sox (Giolito - 9-8, 3.81) - 2:10 PM

Oakland (Manaea - 8-7, 3.43) at Texas (Allard - 2-10, 4.93) - 2:35 PM

Toronto (Matz - 9-7, 4.28) at Seattle (Gilbert - 5-3, 4.05)  - 4:10 PM

game 116.
another nail biting win. but over a first place team.
of course there is no #42 in this pen.
but the pen only gave up 2 runs in 5 innings.
the yanks this year are doing it by the starters/pen keeping them in the game
while the bats eke out wins by one or two runs.
bravo JOEY gallO.
dj, #99, wade, gardy seem to have their bats back.
the cavalry will be when the 18 people on the il come back or
when stanton learns the strike zone - 4 at bats, 3 ks, one infield hit.

I hope Boone has finally realized that Britton is not a closer.  Too late to add players not int organization.

Bring back Buck Showalter.
