NY YANKEES - 2021

Yanks played like a bad little league team tonight. Allowed the Royals best hitter to kill them. Yankees pitchers are the worst fielding pitchers. Every one of them. Higashioka giveth and taketh. Boone called him elite. What?!?! How the hell is Nelson on a major league team? Hard to believe there isn't a better answer in the minors than him. Last 3 innings Yankshitters phoned it in. Figuring this next week is big if this team is to make a real run. So many empty at bats yet again. Boone said Gallo is in a good spot right now. What?!?! Boone should never be interviewed after a loss. Says Gallo is never fooled or overmatched. Wow.

So too sum up the Yanks are a fun watch. Just checked in here and there a few times to check score one time to see Joey G strike out. The night before's game was enough torture for me so watched debut of Fantasy Island with the wife. Show sucked but a lot less aggravation. Next few weeks social calendar pretty busy with weddings, out of town visits from both sides of family consecutively, a plethora of birthdays including mine and my wife's so a well earned respite is in the offing from this aggravating, confounding collection of misfits.

game 113.
game was nail biter until bottom of 6th.
then came ridings. who is a substitute teacher in real life but a pretend mlb pitcher in the summer.
the sub faced 4 batters. 3 hit long power blasts against him. the 4th was credited with a sac bunt and no one was out on that play. it is time for ridings to reapply for his sub teaching certificate.
deja vu all over again. velazquez still does not know that the black part of the plate is a strike, another strike out looking.
and stanton - velazquez's batting instructor again does his strike out with a ball very low and very outside.
the yanks has 14 k's with an ump that was calling a decent strike zone.
odor eater had 3 k's. one with bases loaded and 2 outs.
gallo - boone's untouchable love child also had 3 k's.
yanks had 5 hits. kc started a crappy pitcher.
4 errors. voit still not in defensive shape. could not bend over for routine grounder.
instead of watching fantasy island, i watched fantasy baseball.
happy soon to be b-day to mr/mrs bamafan. wish for a yank win when cutting the b-day cake.
today is an afternoon game. great. i'll have more waking hours to deal with my agita.

Have you been paying attention all year?  Or do you just like to complain??
9 pitchers on the IL right now.  7 of them would have been on the big league roster if healthy and the other 2 would have been top options at AAA  (King & Schmidt).
5 pitchers in the minors on the 40 man roster today.
One is Gil who is currently being brought up on days he starts.
Another is Devi Garcia, and he has regressed badly at AAA.
Yoendrys Gomez is a 21 year old SP at A ball.
Luis Medina is a 22 year old SP who has 30 innings at AA and a 4.54 ERA.
Kriske = Nelson

We are at the all hands on deck phase of the season due to covid and injuries.   Nelson isn't on this roster if everyone is healthy.   But he and Kriske are what's left, for the time being. If we can get two of Severino, Monty and Kluber back, you won't have to worry about Nelson ever again.

Great for you. I don't memorize the 40 man roster or their minor league system. It was a criticism of him I've had all year.

Complaints without solutions are very hot right now.  Check out Next Door for more examples.  /media/kunena/emoticons/silly.png

Little league error in 9th that could have ended the game. Let's see what happens. Next batter a home run hitter up as tying run at the plate hits into game ending double play.

This has to be the worst defensive team in the last 50 Yankees years. Just awful.
There's no doubt that this is not a good defensive team, but its not even the worst defensive team we've had this century.   Heck, its not even in the top 5 worst defensive Yankee teams since 2000.

This years team is on pace for 99 errors and a .983 fielding %.
Last years team only played 60 games but they were on pace for 130 E's and .976 F%
2004 was nearly identical to this year:  99 & .984 F%
2011: 102 & .983
2006: 104 & .983
2001: 109 & .982
2000: 109 & .981
2003: 114 & .981
2002: 127 & .979

Hey, the season isn't over yet but they are going to have to suck much more than they have so far in order to pass that 2002 squad.

How are your Mets doing?  /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

game 114.
bravo to the yankee pitching group.
another fine pitching outing by the group, half of them not in april plans.
yanks did what contenders do. beat a below average team with a below average starter.
yanks did not pounce on kc's crappy pen.
both kc runs scored on ground balls caught by yankee infielders.
3 yankee infield errors on other plays.
suggestions. use stanton in the outfield. get stanton a coach that can teach the strike zone.
need to see less of gardy at bat, although lately gardy doing ok with the stick.
when gardy is on base, have him steal more often. he has the legs/skill.
find a place for wade in the lineup. also let him keep the green light to steal.

Always have hated the Mets. Ask Section 10.

When what I think will be our regular lineup is actually out on the field, defense should look much better IMO. That has excellent defenders in the corners IF/OF, plus DJ at second. Of course this is where Hicks absence really hurts because for all his offensive holes and inconsistency, the OF looks even better defensively with him in CF.

Some Tidbits from an article posted today by Lindsey Adler in The Athletic.

In the last sixteen games:
  • The Yankees have gone 12-4
  • 10 games have been decided by a maximum of two runs.
  • The Yankees have used 20 pitchers.  The 2001 Mariners used a total of 15 pitchers during their 116 win regular season (SJU85 Note - before losing to the Yanks in the ALCS 4 games to 1/media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png )
  • The Yankees have placed 10 players on the Injury List ("IL") including 6 on the COVID-19 IL.
  • Prior to Wednesday's game when Clay Holmes was added to the IL with COVID-19 symptoms, the Yankees had a whopping 21 players on the IL. (SJU85 note -  that's five short of the regular season roster).  They currently have 20 on the IL as Clarke Schmidt was activated after Wednesday's game from the IL and was then optioned to Scranton-Wilkes Barre.  Only the 2020 Marlins have had more at one time when they had 23 players on the IL at one time during a COVID-19 outbreak.
Yankees have used 57 players this year, 28 pitchers and 29 position players over the first 114 games with only DJ LeMahieu and Aaron Judge having played more than 100.

For tonight's game, both teams get to add a 27th player as it would be difficult to get a replacement to Dyersville, Iowa, on short notice if an issue were to arise.  Yankees Taxi Squad for tonight's game includes Estevan Florial and Double A shortstop project Oswald Peraza.   It is unclear if either will be activated however the 27th player gets an MLB salary and service time for the game but can be returned to the minor leagues without requiring a minor league option.

Speaking of Clarke Schmidt, his father Dwight Schmidt, flew the Yankees charter flight from KC to Dubuque, Iowa for tonight's game.  The elder Smith was a Marine aviator who flew F-18's and is now a pilot and flight instructor for Delta Airlines.  Clarke's one requests to his dad was "Please don't embarrass me."

the only run so far was a homer hit into the first row (of corn).
boone yank this pitcher before a yankee outfielder gets stalked.
