Playing a deep third base he plays a hard hit ground ball (by no means a scorcher) off to the side instead of getting in front of it and it goes off his glove too far away to throw the runner out. Guess he was afraid ball might hit his body and give him a boo boo. Pay millions to these guys to play the game in a way deleterious to winning. Opened door of a scoreless game to lead to 2 runs for Seattle.
Odur didn't get in front of the ball because he was afraid the ball might hit him and cause a bruise and Wade didn't reach for the ball for fear of straining a muscle. Pretty obvious the Yankees are made out of cream cheese. /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.pngMoose post=437914 said:bamafan post=437904 said:Way to go Odur. I understand that it was a game changing play. But also this is the 8th game Odor has played 3B in his career. All this year. All ironically since DJ went down with 'triceps' injury. Makes it pretty clear DJ is hurt, it impacts a long throw across the diamond from 3B and likely impact his swing. So I can't really fault Odor for playing out of position.
This is where you guys need to get on your ole whipping boy Cashman for having that waste of space Tyler Wade on the team. I particularly loved the foul ball today that dropped right at his feet that he didnt even reach for .
Delaware post=437915 said:I was wondering the same thing about why Wade did not even attempt to reach out for that ball. I thought Voit was good in the field, getting to 1st on a play Gil was slow. And making the throw to 2nd where neither Yankees infielder covered.

If you are talking about that play in the 2nd or 3rd inning where they should have turned two after Voit layed out for a ball and made a perfect throw to 2nd, that was on Odor, not Torres. He has the bag ion that play and needs to get there faster so he can get across it to the home plate side and give Voit a throwing lane. He didn't, so when Voit threw from his knees, Odor lost sight of the ball when the baserunner crossed his line of sight and he stopped.Moose post=437917 said:Delaware post=437915 said:I was wondering the same thing about why Wade did not even attempt to reach out for that ball. That play with the Voit throw I agree. That was a big issue. But I think it's on Torres. Torres just isnt an alpha for me. At SS you need to be an alpha.

Watch the play again. Torres is too far away to cover the bag because he's the only guy on the left side of the infield. He never breaks for the bag. Odor, who was playing 3b was behind the bag at 2nd base so he could turn the double play. You are correct that Torres would have a better view of the throw but it wasn't his job to cover on that play. He's responsible for covering 3b. If he were to try to cover and lose a foot race to the bag with the runner, that runner just keeps on going to 3rd.Moose post=437931 said:I disagreeSJUFAN2 post=437926 said:If you are talking about that play in the 2nd or 3rd inning where they should have turned two after Voit layed out for a ball and made a perfect throw to 2nd, that was on Odor, not Torres. But since you love Gleyber like a first born child
The throw was on the inside of the bag. For Odor to get there, catch, stay on the bag, and throw would be a bit much. Easier for the SS to cut across with momentum. I recall see Gleyber's feet in cement not even moving to the bag. Then again maybe it's PTSD of him the other night completely giving up on a blooper between him and the LF'er. /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

When you set up your defense that way the guy behind the bag has 2b. The problem is that you don't anticipate the First baseman to be throwing from his knees. If he's upright the throw is above shoulder level and Odor can see it the whole way. Because the launch point of the throw is a few feet lower due to Voit diving, the runner's torso blocks Odor's view of the ball coming out of Voit's hand.
I know you hate Torres and would love for this to be on him so you can complain about him even more /media/kunena/emoticons/cheerful.png... but its not.
