NY YANKEES - 2021

The Yanks continue to show that they are a very inconsistent team.  Hitting with RISP continues to be pathetic (3 for 16 today).  The bullpen looks great one day, and absolutely atrocious the next day.  They are what they are, a very mediocre, badly put together resemblance of a baseball team.  How do you lose so many large leads in the last inning of a game??

I don't buy that at all.

still don’t buy it after today ?
chapman wasn’t coming in last night or today clearly.
hate the guy all you want as a skipper. I agree he’s been a train wreck last two years. But he was not bringing Chapman in that game last night.

Not sure if I ever seen a worse loss then this.  Turned to EURO because I assumed it was over.

Chance to sweep a good team on the road and maybe do something second half and then this....

And they maybe done anyway but clearly if Chapman cannot close again they cannot do anything,.

A case of Boone over-managing. German should have finished the game.

Could also say he shouldn’t have left him in the game. Two bullpen games for a guy used to starting.

Before we kill Boone for not sticking with German, let's recognize what Chad Green has been over the past month.  Green has given up one run in his last 11 appearances, with a one walk, a 0.59 ERA, and a 15/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.  He has been one of the best relievers in Major League Baseball.

He has been great, though I personally think Loaisiga has been our best reliever this year.

Green gave up back-to-back doubles to the first two batter he faced, neither one missed leaving the ballpark by much.  However, I wonder if a home run on either one of them might have been a better result for him, because then he can just start over with a clean slate.  Oh well, it's been that kind of season.

Ambivalence has settled in, unfortunately.

My sanity won't hold out if what I'm about to propose does happen, but if they go 0-9 in this stretch without the COVID guys, it could be in the best long term interests of the franchise.  Lose as much as you can, and try and get a top 10 pick in the draft next year.  Because if you do that, that pick would be protected against any free agent signing we would make this offseason.

Of course, the COVID guys will be back, and it's shown that, with that talent, we can only lose so much, so maybe these guys taking the hit now, will pay dividends later.

Typical Yanks loss. They don't hit, and Montgomery puts them in an early hole. He and German can't get out of innings with 2 outs. BTW, Stanton sucks. Boone will say that he thought Montgomery was real good tonight, and that Stanton had some near-miss swings.

Monty has gone 5 straight starts without a run of support. That’s mind boggling

Ranting about Stanton  isn't going to change the fact that he's not going anywhere.  Who would take him?

This is where COVID hurt.  He had an opt-out after last year, and if fans had been able to ride him (non-violently, of course), it could have drove him to the point of craziness, and maybe he would have left, irregardless of salary.

What's amazing is how much better JD Martinez is then him (and I think Stanton's been alright on the whole, this year), and JD is also an exclusive DH (well, he's played some outfield this year, but only about 5 games), and is 2 years older then Stanton.  Maybe the fact that JD was a late bloomer is giving him some years on the back end.

As far as Montgomery is concerned, I don't think it really matters how we pitch, right now.

Also, to all of you who wanted to cut ties with Gardner after last year, you were right, and I was wrong.  There, I said it.

Cole now has 4 complete games as a Yankee, each a different length.

5 innings against Washington in last year's opener (rain shortened)

6 innings tonight against Boston (rain shoretned)

7 innings against Baltimore last year (doubleheader)

9 innings last week against Houston

He appears to be back to form (and back in the Cy Young conversation, as well).
