Nuri Leaving

if this kid is leaving because he and dunlap bump heads we dont want him IMHO, Dunlap only is out to make his team better and NEEDS Nuri to follow his direction, if he is that upset over getting chewed out or being pulled out of games for coaching SEE YA!! we do not need kids like this here

Supposedly the kid & Dunlap butted heads over the past few weeks & he feels he can do better elsewhere. Where is anyone's guess.

I can't believe he let his teammates down like that. Its disgusting that he would just quit.

Going into conference play with 6 guys is just down right criminal.

It also sucks for Lavin - he's now gonna have to rush back and control this sinking ship.

Go to the STJ sports facebook site and read what Nuri's boys were posting there yesterday, specifically about Dunlap.
I'm certain this had a bearing on his "departure."

About 4th post down, and make sure it's set on all posts, not just the one's released from the school.

What was your reaction to those posts?

My first was that these people know nothing about proper grammer (and this coming from someone who probably shouldn't talk on the issue).

The guy who started it claims that he doesn't know Lindsey, but several others seemed to call him out on it. Even if he didn't know, it's clear that they jumped in on the topic.

I also didn't understand the post from the woman claiming to be Nuri's mom (You can never tell on those sites if that's truthful or not, but I have no reason to not believe her). Was she defending the staff, or attacking them? That wasen't clear.

Whats up with his mother on the last comment? Im assuming thats not really her

The way he has played the past few games he deserved to be pulled. I can't believe he would transfer after 9 games. Now he has to sit out a full year, and he is what 22 already? Nice move

Agreed. I'll stand by this staff any day. We knew there would be some bumps along the way.

At least we won't have to worry about him leaving early to turn pro.

Actually wouldnt be shocked if thats where he's going. I mean hes older as it is. Where is he gonna go? D2 he can play now but D1 he would have to wait until next December.

The posts are basically calling out Dunlap for taking Nurideen off the floor at times, and someone who claims to be his mother seems to echo their sentiments.

Which is utter hogwash, IMO, because the staff has been taking everybody out of games, particularly in the first half, to preserve the players, with such a short rotation.

I do think that strategy has had the negative effect of lack of continuity on the court, but I haven't seen anything in the subs to indicate that Nuri is getting worse treatment then anybody else. Then again, we don't know what is being said in the huddles or locker room.

Last game I joked that Nuri looked like he was point shaving with how bad he looked. Kind of makes sense now. He wasn't really 'in it'.

ill take amir anyday over nuri!! the kid is all about SJU basketball and have worked his tail off to get here, i actually think we will put a better product on the court

When I look at Nuri transferring, I wonder why you would just give up on your teammates and the school. By knowing that your team is shorthanded this year to me its like, i cant deal you guys are on your own.

And if Nuri thinks that whatever school he is transferring to, that he is not gonna get pulled from a game for turning the ball over or taking bad shots, he is mistaken. Good thing he doesn't play for Mike Rice at Rutgers, he be pulled and chewed out right on the bench.

Maybe I'm a little older, but sometimes you need to own up and handle your responsibilities.

Unfortunately, i think that this one of the many bi-products of lavin's sickness. Not having the guy who recruited you on the bench in your first year at the school is a big deal. Cancer sucks and at the end of the day coach needs to take care of himself. if Nuri wants to give up on Lav and his teammates, then good riddance.

 Nuri Tweet:

First off I wanna start by saying I apologize to the fans and supporting cast of St. Johns. I can understand the frustration, and I will accept the criticism from you guys because of my decision. Just want all of you to know that this was an extremely hard decision to make. But ultimately I felt as though this decision was best for me and my fami8ly. I love St. Johns!! And I will continue to support Redstorm Nation and family. Once again, I am sincerely sorry if you guys feel like I let you down, Ill always love and support St. Johns.

Wow. New Twitter posts say he's not transferring to another school, but will be prepping for the NBA.

Wonder if he'll be training with Omar Cook.

I agree with your post. I, honestly felt he could come back out of his funk and help us the remainder of the season and later down the road. Unfortunately, he's bailing out on his teammates, coaches and fans.

I hope he ends up happy wherever he lands.
