Nov 8, 2016 - The lesser of two evils?

The questions about this carrier deal isn't what Trump gave up or offered, it's why hasn't Obama done the same thing over the past 8 years? This should have been Obama's to save, instead of crowing about a bailout that saved a sinking ship that should have been allowed to go down.

I am happy for the employees. I am also anxiously awaiting the details.

If Trump did a Carrier-style deal every week for the next 4 years, he could bring back 4% of the manufacturing jobs lost since 2000.

Isn't it funny that you choose 2000? If the needle is moving in the right direction that's a start, and Trump the businessman had the energy and desire to do what Obama had neither of - keeping Carrier in the US.

Not saying it's a bad thing, just saying it's no big thing. Symbolically I understand the importance but it's meaningless in the long run. Unfortunately, no matter how hard anyone tries the future of our economy is not going to be based on the reemergence of the manufacturing sector.

Not just manufacturing, but outsourced jobs, trade imbalance, etc. But your point is well taken. You also are given the redeemable status.

Yes. And, to accomplish this we need another revolution. From my perspective, the best opportunities are in energy and infrastructure.

I know Trump pandered to the steel and coal industries, but that's not real.

Agreed as far as reemergence but if he can keep what current jobs are here local then that's a good thing

I can definitely see some manufacturing returning to the US because of Nat Gas. It's much cheaper here than other places and for plants that require a lot of Nat Gas use then it actually could make sense for them to produce here for products being sold in North America because of the amount of money saved on energy and shipping to the US even when you factor in higher wage cost.

But agree manufacturing is never going to be the roaring machine but it doesn't have to be dead either

Fair point, you're right. Steel is not the long shot that coal is. In fact, I think we use enough steel already. It is an industry that has been hurt by foreign trade, so it should be right in the bad man's wheelhouse.

Also I should have mentioned I agree with you on coal. I don't see how it comes back with Nat Gas so cheap and in abundance here

I will say one thing for The Donald, whether you like his politics or not, he is wasting no time in making good on his campaign promises. While security needs to be tightened on the southern border, a 2000 mile wall is not exactly practical. That the Mexican President would cancel his trip over this is laughable; they need us as a trading partner a lot more than we need them. Of course, we do like our lawn cut for $20 and we love our hand picked California fruit & veg. I can see this spat between Trump & Nieto escalating... It is going to be a fascinating four years.

The orange one is a lot like us posters. He uses alternative facts. Don't tell me the Xavier game wont have a bigger crowd bigger than the Villanova game.

Trump is exciting for the less cerebral among us. Simple folk fall for the bullying bravado and become willing to accept the embarrassing circus show. This also happened here in NJ with Chris Christie.

if my landscaper raise his price on me because of some landscaping tax from $20 to $25 I'm going to vote for Bernie next time

Dow breaks 20k
Companies not leaving, in fact auto industry among others changing plans to export factories to plans to build here.
Fact is that in a few short days Trump has done more for our economy then any president since FDR.
Those are the Facts. And they are indisputable. ( Just because you don't hear them on CNN doesn't mean they don't exist )

Right, of course, can't trust CNN. Sean Spicer and Kellyanne Conway are most reliable sources.

No, you can't trust CNN, whether you can trust Trump remains to be seen but he is doing exactly what he said he would, like it or not. Regardless, you can definetly not trust CNN.

I rarely talk politics and I'm not the best when it comes to picking up sarcasm, but you're joking right? If you're I apologize for not catching it, but hypothetically if you are serious I'm going to disagree with your assestment of President Trump.
