Don't confuse the bankruptcy of the Democratic party with coherence on the part of the Trump administration or other than unenlightened self-interest on the part of the Republican leadership.

Chuck Schumer crying about this being Unamerican? He should be nominated for an academy award. The only real tears he has is that he didn't challenge Hillary for the nomination this time around.

Don't confuse my comments as adoration for Trump.

I get those who dislike Trump, I really do. But if Bill Clinton, one of the biggest misogynistic womanizing degenerates to ever walk the face of the earth, came out of retirement and ran for president, those same female anti-Trump protesters would be out supporting him en masse. Willing to completely overlook all the sexual abuse allegations, and that he had a propensity for preying on interns. Just one example of the double standard that many on the left live by. To paraphrase Al Michaels, its totally farcical what's going on out there.

Hypocrisy among the left?!?! Say it ain't so, look at the recent refugee issue....the countries were picked by the Obama administration! And look at bill Clinton speech from 1995 it is almost word for word what trump has been saying about the issue. But that would be inconvenient for dems to realize that much. Never let a crisis go to waste

So, yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting a few more Redmen.comers. As expected, a seemingly great bunch of guys with whom I would share many laughs. I would also imagine that any poster taking the time to torture themselves in this thread is likely well informed and recognizes that CNN, MSNBC, and Fox are all full of $4it! and are undeniably driven by a definitive political agenda.

I also recognize that neither side is going to change their mind (yet). So my hope, is that conservatives can begin to assess Trump in terms of Trump; and not in terms if Hillary or Bill or Obama. I disliked Hillary as a candidate and voted for her strictly from a "Never [strike]Hitler[/strike] Trump" perspective.

So, I ask......what is the purpose of cutting out key military and intelligence officials from the National Security Council? I have my own ideas, but I would love if someone else could weigh-in, without countering with Bill, Barack, Hillary, Herman, Jah, or Valerie. It's not about them anymore.

Just got this email from SJU and President Gempesaw....

Message from the President

On January 27, 2017, President Trump issued an Executive Order on Immigration. The order temporarily suspends the issuance of visas and places a ban on entry into the United States by citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. Serious concerns have been raised by thousands in the academic community that the impact of this Executive Order is discriminatory and imposes undue burden on certain members of our community and their families.

The Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU), of which St. John's is a member, has issued a statement expressing strong opposition to the Executive Order. I join the more than one hundred presidents of Catholic colleges and universities in support of the statement. Click here to read the full statement by ACCU.

We are in the process of reviewing the full impact of the Executive Order and reaching out to members of the University who may be directly affected. I urge those who have travel plans to or from the countries listed above to first consult with the University's Office of General Counsel before making any travel plans.

As a Catholic and Vincentian University with a 147-year history, St. John's has-and will always be-a place that welcomes immigrants and the children of immigrants. This year, the Congregation of the Mission fittingly celebrates the 400th anniversary of the Vincentian Charism as the year of Welcoming the Stranger. At St. John's University, we support all members of the University community, regardless of their country of origin or their chosen faith. We are committed to continuing this tradition.

I would simply say this regarding your specific criticism of cabinet staffing: Washington has been dysfunctional for a very long time. 8 years ago, America was enthused about hope and change, and a promise to stop doing business as usual. The result: Hillary as SOS, replaced by Kerry, and a bunch of retreads. They told us everything was great even as everything wasn't great.

People over 50 when laid off almost certainly saw an end to good salaries. College grads still continue to be underemployed. Our dependence upon foreign energy hasn't changed a bit. ISIS grew out of the Taliban and Al Qaeda in a more violent and extreme way.

So the answer is, let's see what happens before condemning every single goddamned move. Let's see if we really can vette immigrants from terror supporting nations a little better than before. Let's see if we can really bring jobs back, and balance our trade deficit. All I know is that the last X number of years haven't been so good, and maybe a fresh approach will yield new results. It's about time we started treating our government like a business and not a sponge.

And may I ask why the CIA director was not on nsc? Since Trump now has Pompeo on it. And you do realize David axelrod sat in on the meetings the same way bannon will. But you will come up w some reason to bash Trump.

I voted for him but I agree with you on this and I'll admit I don't really like the fact that he did that and thought it was strange. I don't care so much that he brings Bannon into this but I don't know why he pulled them out even if they say they can still attend for meetings that pertain them

On a separate note since you mentioned the media ( and I agree with you they all have an agenda ) the thing that drives me crazy sometimes with them was this past weekend with the travel ban thing.

Trump does what he does and the next thing I see is the media and then some of my friends who hate Trump all suggesting that he chose those 7 because his company didnt do business with. them

The media failed to mention though that there are something like 50 freaking countries with large muslim populations and only a handful I think he does have business ties in and that out of those 7 countries on the list ( which was the exact list from a couple of years ago ) I'm not even sure that US companies are allowed to do business with at least 5 of them.

And if anyone were to think about it rationally if Trump is alienating certain Muslim countries then other Muslims are going to get pissed off from countries not affected by the ban because they are going to think it's an attack on all of them and then that's going to hurtt the marketability of the Trump brand anyway. So in essence Trump is hurting his own brand worldwide by his decision

According to official organization charts the CIA Director (just added to the NSC) reports to the Director of National Intelligence (just demoted from the NSC). Perhaps Trump is going to abolish the DNI position....I have no idea. Clearly he want s his guy (Pompeo) in there. But cutting the Joint Chief of Staff out is hard to rationalize.

Just got the same thing. Bobby should stay out of National Security matters, and stick to trying to figure out how to run a university.

I really hate this topic. I know that I can filter it out but it is easier for me to hit recent topics and with a lot of time to kill, I like reading everything, but prefer reading about lobster rolls, bets people make, and even where people are sending their kids to high school and college. I even prefer reading about Fun's view of politics in his game write ups because there is some humor and hot women to look at. I enjoy when JSJ, Beast of the East, Monte and others post articles about the university, business and education which can be civilly discussed.

I know that others enjoy posting about Donald and Hillary and at times I have been lured in but I wish we would win enough games and sign enough recruits to keep people focused on what makes this website great, a distraction from the real world and it's angry arguments.

So carry on as I am just one person and the board is much bigger then me but as it is hard enough to have civility when debating Mussini and Ellison it is nearly impossible when debating Hillary and Donald.

I could get on board with enhanced vetting. However, whether you want to admit it or not, Trump's roll out here was very poor. He admittedly did not consult the Department of Homeland Security or the Justice Department. He did not brief republican lawmakers, who could have been allies in winning public/media support. I think Trump needs to understand that, despite being president, he does need to collaborate. For now, the guy couldn't operate in a more divisive manner if he tried.

Our dependence upon foreign energy hasn't changed a bit.

I totally agree he could and should have handled it better. I just think there was a 0 % chance he chose those countries because he didnt do business in them

At a quick glance (and given the nature of this topic), I read this as "debating Mussolini and Ellison", and thought, "Who the hell is Ellison? Don't you mean Churchill?"

Not a lobster roll but how about Lobster Ceviche and some grilled lobster tails I had in Cuba a couple of weeks ago :)
