Nov 8, 2016 - The lesser of two evils?

I am so relieved this election is over. Everyday for the past year, I have felt less optimistic about the country's chance of surviving another 25 years.

Last night I enjoyed switching channels from FOX to CNN to CBS. The uber-confident, all-knowing CNN anchors started the night, ready to pop the champagne. Poor Wolf and the gang. I hope the Republican party never participates in another debate on CNN. That's two consecutive elections (that we are aware of) where CNN actively tried to interfere with the elections. May bankruptcy be in their near term future.

Could someone please tell me how "the Russians did it" is a defense to the crimes revealed be Wikileaks.

The point is there were no crimes revealed in wikileaks, what was revealed was the dark underbelly of the US political system that thrives on both sides. But it was leveraged brilliantly by one side against the other.

Love listening to NBCs Brokaw, savanah Guthrie, Lester Holt et all cry eating sour grapes, still soewing venom against Trump the whole way even as they verbally swoon over the "cerebral and elegant" obama.

They characterize Trump supporters as riral Americans and Brokaw incredulous that the vile and vulgar trump "uttered the worst vulgarity" while campaigning in NH. Brokaw forgets that his hero Clinton literally left stains in the oval office.

A new day is coming and not a minute too soon
I like Brokaw but not tonight. I think Chuck Todd has done a really good job though

Chuck Todd offered one thing that surprised me. HE said when he asked Hillary what her platform is, she teplied "That we are better together" He correctly said. that's not a plan, it's a slogan.

That's a great observation. When was the last election where folks really discussed the platforms. I know that you and the other folks I debate here do understand the platforms, and ended up voting for the person that best reflected that platform, as do and did I and yet even we ended up having ridiculous discussions on personality. It's a sad process nowadays.

I have to hand it to you Beast, you stuck to your guns I thought you were delusional that Trump could win. I hope you are right about him being a good business man/leader too.

And I'm pretty sure that if Hillary had won, we'd have a bunch of threads blaming Steve Lavin, so that's something... ;)

Not sure about a bunch of threads, but you'd have a least one. ;)

Panther, ask many of the men and women of law enforcement how much better off they are over the last 8 years......glad you are enjoying life, many aren't and that's not to say life will be peaches and cream under trump. But like 8 years ago many people want change

Police officer deaths during GWB's 8 year term: 1,212, So far during Obama's term: 1,062. And yes I have NYPD officers in my family and know how hard the job is but just quoting facts.

Do people think Coomey reopened the investigation a week before the election for no good reason, only to conclude that there was nothing new? ,

In a word, yes.

Thanks, Paul. I have a nutty friend, who is my insurance agent. He's Jewish and Conservative (how crazy is that) and insisted just 2 weeks ago that Trump was going to win big.

I simply made a case for Trump over Clinton. Contrary to popular belief, I'd be shocked as hell if he tried to profit off of the Presidency. I also believe that he will stick to his promises of trying to improve our inner cities, improve our economy, bring home manufacturing jobs, and lower taxes. I'm not sure it is possible, but I do believe he will try.

Is he a neophyte? Yes, politically, but unlike Obama, who had never even managed a crew at McDonalds, Trump has thousands in his employ, understands building an organization infrastructure, and trusting those in his inner circle for leadership and counsel. Didn't Bloomberg prove as mayor of NYC, perhaps the second toughest job in America, that being a businessman is a great asset in government?

In any case, God bless us all - even Austour. We all need it.

Hey Beast, I hope you're right however the odds are very long on that one. If he had a good VP the future might not look quite as daunting but Pence scares me more than Trump, at least Trump held a lot of my positions at one or two times or another.

Oh, and, you can keep your god, I got my legal ganja! PS gave the stuff up a couple decades ago, not sure what to make of this legalization thing except hope it drives more revenue for the state because Federal Assistance looks like it might be in short supply for the near future. Those welfare states, the ones who complain about the size of government while leeching off the treasury, and 9 of the top 10 are red, may be in a little trouble.

But seriously, we can only hope this works out for the best while preparing for the worst. Mike, should I move all my stocks into bonds yet?

Whoops, didn't mean to give you a "thank you" for the post.

Question......you know that republican policy is consistently not good for municipal and unionized workers, right?

The American people are hurting. There are a lot of miles between the two coasts that are being ignored. When the current President was elected people voted for change and they got more of the same. Then the democrat party nominated a liar and one of the most corrupt candidates ever. Last night, those same people who the democrat candidate referred to as "deplorables" sent a very clear message. Change. If Trump doesn't deliver he will face the same fate.

Interesting how offended Trump supporters were about the term "deplorables". I don't condone it, but sure pales in comparison to Trump's endless onslaught of offensive comments.

Yes def move you money out of season tickets and start burying gold in your backyard :)

Do you think it was appropriate for a the DOJ not getting a grand jury? And Do you think the FBI investigation was above board without any influence from the higher ups?

Before anyone pounces, I am aware that Donald Trump has not committed the atrocities of Hitler. I am just saying, as long as hate speech is acceptable to half of all americans, perhaps another Hitler is not so impossible.

Yes, no and yes (there's two variables in your second question)

Unfortunately in the world of the internet and a 24 hour news cycle we are reduced to who has the best soundbites and we are all worse off for it

Today was a real interesting day in the market. Last night around 2am the futures were down 800 and today the market goes up over 200 but the bond market got obliterated today. The 30 year treasury yield went up 25 basis points which might not sound like a lot but I literally don't think I have seen a bond market move like that since 08-09. Still the 30 year isn't even yielding 3%. I don't know if today was a 1 day bond market event or a trend yet but it was real interesting nonetheless

And I'll say this. I thought Trumps acceptance speech was his best ever ( overseas markets bounced after it )

Hillary's speech today was fantastic and extremely classy especially considering how much she had to be hurting

Obama gave a great speech today too

If I am understanding you, you are saying you feel the FBI was not above board, which is a problem You are also saying you believe Obama and,or the justice dept. did not influence the findings. I disagree, but non of us regular folks know for sure.

Last night I was really worried about the stock market and even Trump. The change today was unbelievable. Perhaps as you said the speeches put people at ease.

Just keep me apprised, okay. I want fair warning on when to move. ;)

I'll assume you missed Netenyahu's emphatic endorsement of Trump today. Think I'll trust the PM of Israel on this one.

Yes and now maybe the pro Muslim anti Israeli leanings of the US will turn around.
