Nov 8, 2016 - The lesser of two evils?

Competing for most aggrieved is still not a policy approach that works. The name of the thread is "lesser of two evils" and I am among those who fear that with President Trump our system for self-correction that over time serves us reasonably well, may not survive. Our democracy is not just majority rule, it is minority tolerance, without fear of government persecution or loss of protection under law. It is in that domain that I suspect a President Trump will be severely lacking.

During Watergate and at the conclusion more than 60% of the American public hated Nixon, both Dems and Republicans. Hillary ,Obama, Biden ,et al are concluding their campaign with only hate messages .When Hillary gets elected , Watergate hate will seem like love compared to the hate that will develop with the investigation of the Clintons. The American public will be reminded of Foster, Whitewater and Bengaszi, Iran deal, foreign donations, favorite treatment by the Justice department , Clinton foundation, and list goes on and on.

The Dems really exhibit minority tolerance, they tolerate keeping them in poverty for 3 years and 9 months and then tolerate lying to them in the other 3 months. They are political gangsters and God help us if Clinton gets elected.

Interesting exchange that has remained fairly civilized. I voted last week, and initially was going to vote "none of the above," for president, but voted for Trump because while I'm certain a Clinton administration will be a dumpster fire, replete with the usual assortment of sycophants, hacks, racial payoffs and donors, I'm hoping Trump will appoint at least some competent, honest, pragmatic problem solvers to important posts, and let them run things.
This country has had 16 years of incompetence, and can't afford another failed administration.

I'd give you a +1k if I could

I was going to write in Alfred E. Neuman, but then I remembered what happened last time that I did that.

Wait, I have already seen this episode.

Let me guess.....Democrat wins and republicans continue to obstruct . At least another four years of the American people being hijacked by selfish congressmen devoid of any character.

Hillary is awful.

Trump is an offensive, incapable, ignorant narcissist.

The Republican Party is completely defective. A joke. They STILL don't understand the pathway to winning a national election and will continue to lose until they do. After losing two straight elections because they couldn't make a dent with minority voters, they nominate a guy who offends them all. huh?

Once again I will preface what I am going to say by saying that I am not a fan of Donald Trump. I'll also say that I have spent the last 35 years working in the Manhattan real estate and construction industries, so I know a thing or two about the man. Agree that he can be offensive and is a narcissist. For better or worse, he doesn't mince words. He's got many other flaws as well. But "incapable" and "ignorant"? The man has built(I know he had help from Pops-so what!) and run a multi-billion dollar real estate empire, amongst other successful businesses, for most of his adult life. He is many things, but "incapable" and "ignorant" are not two of them.

This is not about the Republican Party or Donald Trump; in reality, this is about electing to the White House what is essentially a crime family, or are you more offended by a guy who puts his foot in his mouth or a woman who has been, along with her husband, orchestrating a crime wave, leaving people to die, stealing and lying virtually every time she opens her mouth. Me, I'll take the political incorrectness over the John Gotti without the gun any day. By the way, political correctness BS aside, what has Obama, Clinton, or the Democrats done for minorities other than con them?

Trump won the nomination by winning the primaries. It was the dems who crossed over that made him win. I believe he received more Democratic votes than republicans. It was the Clinton machine who place ads against Rubio, who was the most electable candidate and was beating Hillary in all the polls. IT was probably the Clinton Machine who voted for Trump to insure her election during the primaries. Don't put past her, Podesta and That machine with all its foreign donations is capable of more than you can imagine. Don't be surprised when this comes up during the investigations.

I assume you mean besides the 50% drop in unemployment despite GOP led austerity budgets cutting more than 634,000 public service jobs.

Obviously it does not make sense to say he is incapable and ignorant in the real estate arena. However, he is not asking to be elected to run a real estate firm. He has an extraordinary low political IQ and has shown a knack for creating division. That is where I drew my adjectives from.

Well he did just have another Trump Tower go bankrupt so while he may not be ignorant or incapable in real estate - he can grift that system the same way he's grifting the political system - he is culpable for the financial losses of hundreds of investors and vendors all to his own financial gain. Genius then?

The one in Canada ? Did he own it or is it one where he licensed his name and doing management contract ?

To be fair he doesn't really own very much at all anymore does he? Likely a licensing and management deal. As you know I even stayed at a Trump Hotel a couple weeks ago. Rationalized it by saying Trump didn't own the hotels any more.

I have no clue what he actually owns now but I think a lot of these new ones are basically licensing deals. I thought I saw a quick blurb about something like that in canada on my newswire at work but didnt read the article other than headline. If it's a licensing deal then I'm assuming it's a default on a construction loan by someone else but in a case like that you might not even see any layoffs because whoever owns the loan will take over the property and then it will depend on what Trumps mgmt contract is and whether the new owner wants new mgmt team etc

If it's a Trump owned property well then I guess he won't be going to canada anytime soon

It's in Toronto, not Atlantic City. I'm sure someone will take it over.

Point is Trump is a grifter, plain and simple. Used the latest stain on his brand (which is especially toxic right now with regard to hotels) to make a cheap joke.

Should we blame Trump for using the system or the politicians that pass the law and the tax code that allow it.

Right, and Hillary and Bill aren't grifters? You want to think that Trump is a POS you wont get an arguement from me, but you seriously think that Hillary is any better a human being? I don't know you from a hole in the wall, but I assume that you're a lot smarter than to think that.
