NJIT, Sun. Dec. 20, Noon, FS1 & 970 AM

One positive is how when 'Cuse is on the bubble for the tournament we should get some serious airtime as one of the worst losses for any bubble team.

Haaa. +1

I didn't see the game. I had a family obligation. Just looking at the stats what I got is that our defense was horrible again as they gave 84 points. But to me, the bottom line is that we lost by 9 points and missed 16 FreeThrows! Not seeing the game, those of you who did see the game see that analogy as very simplistic considering everything else that probably took place. I also heard that there was lay up missed towards end of the game in a crucial spot. Hit our free throws and make a lay up and we win this game in spite of our bad defense. Better days are definitely ahead and I have all the faith in the world in this staff. Once Mullin and staff get the type of players they want in here and are able to play the style they want things will be a little tough here. But we all knew this. I think things get better once we get Lovett back and get much better next year when the talent level on this team will be much better.

The FT shooting was abysmal but that's not why we lost. We took lots of bad shots and missed while they had lots of good open looks and made them. They had 2 guys on fire from 3 and did nothing to make things difficult for them. We had 20 more FGAs and 20 more rebounds and still NJIT was basically in control all game

Also give credit to both if these "cupcakes" for taking it to the johnnies on the road. There are few "cupcakes" left in college hoops today.

I doubt more than a few big east teams teams make as many threes against the johnnies this season.

The last ACC team missed most of them and many of their misses were pretty good looks.

STAC, Fordham blowout, Incarnate Word, and NJIT combine for probably the worse 4 losses we've ever had in any single season.

Anyone disagree?

We are entering historically bad territory for this program. Which is saying a lot considering how bad we were after the Pitt fiasco.

I disagree with putting the exhibition loss in there. The other losses have an effect on rankings, standings, etc., but once that STAC game ended, it ended.

Fair enough.

Have we had a season though where we got blown out by Fordham, and teams the caliber of IW and NJIT?

That said, I'm not panicking. We all knew this was going to be a shitty season. But Mullin and staff will get the program going again.

I just wish the cubboard wasn't so bare when they took over. If somebody had mentored Obekpa and Jordan and little more, maybe we wouldnt be in this position.

agree completely. Plus the first blowout in hawaii although expected to lose the game in was beyond blowout.

Word of advice to St John's fans especially mjmaher / BE PATIENT as Chris Mullin has limited talent / Tough week losing @ home to Incarnate Word & NJIT

You may have grounds for extending your ten year engagement, adding another five years or so. :)

Would you agree that this is the least talented SJU team you've ever seen?

We should not have lost all three of those games. Definitely not. Fordham, Word, NJIT. Check out the RPI for those three. Not awful. We have no PG. We have an entire new team. Best two recruits - Lovett and Williams, not playing. New coaching staff. New EVERYTHING. Should we hit better from the line? Yes. What did you expect?

Least talented overall IMO:

1) 2003-4
2) 2004-5
3) this one

In Norm's first year we lost to St Francis, @ Niagra, and @ Hofstra. These losses seem worse to me because they were all at home. We did beat NC State at MSG which may be the equivalent of our Cuse win this year. Feels like a similar year is coming if we don't have Lovett. Hopefully the rebuild is quicker overall this time because these kind of years basically just suck.

Adding to no PG, is no continuity in team play. New players, attempting to adhere as a team 'on the fly'. Tough for any team. After this weekend, I expect nothing. Just hope each player develops their skills game over game.
Okay, and 1 or 2 'surprise' wins would be icing!
