NIT

NIT = failure

I vote to delete this thread.

There are around 32 conferences that will send their champs to the NCAA. Of that number, around 20 schools that are low level basketball schools would not even make the NIT had they not had an automatic bid to the NCAA. There are schools with SOS and RPI's that are in the hundreds that are going to the NCAA while we go to the NIT with a lot of school's that would have been in the NCAA had those twenty weak conferences not had automatic bids. It is what it is but a failure it is not given the above.

Perfect example of this is Cal Poly. They had 11 division-1 wins this year yet they are in the big dance.
I don't think that this is a problem for college basketball though, this is exactly what makes this time of year so great.

Please no NIT coaching tutorials on baseline again Coach. Threw Pointer completely off this season. :)

If they couldn't get up for Xavier or Providence...the two most important games of the season...then what makes anyone think they'll be more than one and done in the NIT?

I'd rather be spared the embarassment.

I would tend to agree.
We will win a game. Someone will hit a big shot like last year and everyone will scream improvement.
Player will then come back this year and be arguably worse than ever before

If I was Dom I wouldn't read these boards of the next couple months. Someone has fallen from grace really quickly, and deservedly so. What a brutal season for him.
I root hard for the guy, but man it's hard to think he hasn't regressed.

Is there any remedy for Dom? Is he not given the coaching he needs or is the coaching he gets not connecting ? I am a Celtics fan since 1957 and when I see a player like Dom stuck, My memories of Sam Jones raise the question of could this player do better as a bank shooter?
Maybe he can do better as a bank robber! :) Just kidding, let's not have anyone get their panties in a bunch!

Based on recent performance he would get all the way to the money, leave it, and start looking for a ref to call a foul.

So an NIT final four at MSG of Florida State vs NC State and say Indiana vs St. Johns wouldn't be fun to watch? Look, it is what is and right now its what we have to look forward to.

I fully understand that the NCAA tournament does not host the top 64 (or 68) teams in the country. I also understand that we will never be Kentucky, Duke, UNC, bla, bla, bla. That said, I do think we should be VCU, Xavier, Villanova, etc., etc.

I truly hope the NIT is below the expectations of St. John's fan base. .

It is. Doesn't mean I am not allowed to enjoy it. If the kids come out and show they care and want to win it then I will care.

With Norm the NIT was a good year. I really wanted the big dance, but like Jack I'll watch them in the NIT and hope they make a deep run. It will be interesting to see if CO plays and if he does what kind off attitude he has..

Well, of course, I will be watching and rooting. However, to me, the NIT is an exhibition. It means nothing. Nobody cares or remebers who wins the NIT. I will be watching with thoughts of next year.

Truth be told nobody cares or remembers if a team looses in the first round of the NCAA either. I remember they won the NIT once ,I think w Zendon Hamilton, and the following year made the elite 8.

To each his own. I am bowing out of any NIT discussion.

After two top 10 recruiting classes, I just cannot swallow the NIT.

+1.. but I am a homer. I can certainly see someone going the other way.

Oh, I remember the Gonzaga loss very well. And the fact that we were in the Big Dance was exciting in and of itself.

And that's all I expected from this year. Not Sweet 16, just make the Tourney. It was not an unreasonable request considering the talent we have.

Thanks for yours and others posts about rooting in the NIT. I am slowly changing course about buying tickets. Good job, guys.
