NIT

If they couldn't get up for Xavier or Providence...the two most important games of the season...then what makes anyone think they'll be more than one and done in the NIT?

I'd rather be spared the embarassment.

I would tend to agree.
We will win a game. Someone will hit a big shot like last year and everyone will scream improvement.
Player will then come back this year and be arguably worse than ever before

We beat St. Joseph's and lost to Virginia last year. Now they are going to the tournament this year. That says a lot.

I'm sorry, that must be awful for you.
I hope the school takes your embarrassment into consideration when deciding whether to play games in the future.

if they cant get up for this game or that game, we should decline?????? are you guys serious???? ahhhh...they are college kids guys, relax, dont take all your Knick frustrations out on St Johns. Did they underachieve? YES, we know that, move on....they did win 20 games and if they run the table in the NIT, ill be satisfied. NCAA Champs is ultimate goal, but running the table in the NIT is no small feat, lets start there.

There going to the NIT. Dissapointed , NCAA was within our grasp. Hopefully we ll get a few wins and our guys get some tourney exp.

I would prefer the NCAA over the NIT just like everyone else but... Winning the NIT tournament is still an improvement over last year just like winning 20 games this season is an improvement over winning 17 games last season.

We all expected faster results but if you look at every year that Lavin has been here with HIS players it has been an improvement over the past season, however small the improvement has been. So, to cap off this season we have already gone from 17 wins to 20 wins in regular season and now we go from second round NIT to NIT champions. It's still an improvement.

[li]2011-12...13-19, 6-12[/li]
[li]2012-13...17-16, 8-10... NIT Second Round[/li]
[li]2013-14...20-11, 10-8... TBD[/li]

I am sure they will go. But I am shutting it down for the season.
If they run the table in the NIT youll be back.....and hopefully not tear you down again...lol, its been tough to be a johnnie fan, all my family and friends keep telling me the same thing...." I thought you said it was their year this year ? "...bastards! gotta laugh

Similar, to how some teams were low seeds in the NCAA Tournament (in some cases, barely getting in) and making a decent run or even winning a championship (ie, '85 Villanova and '97 Arizona). I'm sure many of those teams lost important games during the season, as well.

Another poster who seem to be embarrassed by a game. Yikes.

If I was Dom I wouldn't read these boards of the next couple months. Someone has fallen from grace really quickly, and deservedly so. What a brutal season for him.
I root hard for the guy, but man it's hard to think he hasn't regressed.

I remember how excited I was during the 2010 season. Top recruiting class coming in, knocking off top team after another. I really thought Lavin was going to bring us to prominence. Another NIT appearance. I am back to SJBB reality. I guess after watching the Norm years this is an improvement. The real bummer is we have talent and we had high expectations.

The Harkless year was almost better cause you could watch the games knowing we weren't going anywhere, this year there were high hopes so it sucks it went down the way it did.

I don't think he fell from grace. People like him for all those 'intangibles' and such. But thats pulling wool over the eyes of the fact that he's just not that good. To be the highest ranked kid in that first class shows how bad rankings can be. It's really amazing how entering his 4th year he still can't hit a jumpshot.

You're talking about Dom right?? lol. It sure was a flash of brilliance. It was all downhill for him from there.

no hope says he can not get into the NIT .. will not even watch it or post on it. our season ended yesterday.. to lose the way we did leaves a sour taste in our mouth and a pain in the pit of our stomachs.. we were right there . we needed the win and we came up very small. there is no excuse to get beat up the way we got beat up. most will say oh yes the nit will give us extra games to work ...bs we had out chance and we came up small.. if we go to nit who cares we are 69 we are 69 big deal.. no hope says the season ended yesterday when we came out and laid a egg... lets hope next year the staff and the players remeber you cant give away games.... cant lost to teams you should beat.. and cant walk out on court in a play in game shoot 50% from free throw line and sleep walk through a game ...No Hope would like to wish all of his fellow posters a great summer season .. go check out some AAU tounaments those kids leave it all out there on the court .. enjoy the sun and see all you guys for midnight madness next year .... :( .. yesterday depressed no hope so much he is not sure he can watch the tournament and destroyed his plans for friday and saturday garden trips ,,, now he will be stuck with the wife for the weekend :sob: .. Be safe everyone

Did you just refer to yourself in the fourth person?

Trust me, I am done for the season. In fact, I have already told the person who puts together our NCAA brackets thst I am out this year. I can't explain it, but this loss is leaving a really big bruise.

kranmars I am with you.. every year sunday is a great night we get out the brackets write then in ( no computer old school pen and paper) and start filling them in.. then it is plane to vegas on wed and then bball all day thurs friday sat and sunday then red eye back to ny .. but this year uggh the air went out of the balloon and it is tough to get back up.. only good thing is when gonzaga crushed us the lil hopes coleege funds were hurt  ugh that was a beating... so this year sju will not destroy the no hope bank account in the tournament . crazy how ncaa died for us yesterday depressing

Same, and never again. I'm usually pretty conservative in projecting this team (and for good reason), but given how moderate of an accomplishment it is to simply make the NCAA Tournament, I was sure they would do so and was telling people just that. Now I'm hearing about it and am going to have to keep hearing about it. Conservatively projecting this program means taking what you think is conservative and subtracting an addtional 20%.

In my next life I will be completely devoid of all interest in sports. I will be happier, less crazy, and emotionally stronger. But most of all, I will finally be able to laugh at every sports fan who has their day ruined over something as silly as a team losing, like myself.
