NIT

The Johnnies are 100% in the NIT field.  They are going to want 2 big east teams in, especially one from NY.  It is only a matter of where we are seeded.

I don't see the relevance of Xavier playing in the NIT and our chances. They don't care if two teams come from the Big East. We may or not make but it doesn't have anything to do with Xavier.

I'm assuming NET is important, otherwise Adam wouldn't waste his time being the NET guru here. A quick search told me our NET was 69. That sounds like we are firmly in NIT.

They want as many “big names” as possible. The thought that somehow one team would effect the other one is laughable. I know we’re not exactly top tier anymore, but would they rather have an established name or the 3rd or 4th place team from the Mountain West?

How ironic would it be we got snubbed this year, when we snubbed them last year.

It's a huge problem if we don't get in, because rather than it being an embarrassing snub, I think it would mean we secretly told them no in the last couple hours. And telling them no would likely mean players have no intention of playing for a school they don't plan to be at two months from now.

I swear I'm not melodramatic in real life though./media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

If Xavier made the NCAA another bubble team would be out that we would be competing w for a spot in the NIT, IE Rutgers, so it makes no difference. The biggest problem is conference champs in lower conferences lost in their tourney  finals IE Yale. getting auto bids in the NIT.

It looks like there are 11 autos and we are about 18th in NET after teams that are not in NCAA and autoed to NIT. So maybe not super comfy, but should slip in. We would beat nine of the autos easily. One plays super tight D and could grind us (and bore us) into a loss on a bad day.

*Actually, there are some big names behind us in NET. This might be embarrassingly close . . . or just embarrassing.

I'm generally the eternal optimist but am pretty nervous about this one. Think we are 50/50 at best.

Let's see if today is the day the Duke Mush doesn't happen.

I just added a sentence to my post that makes me align more with you now.

I cant  imagine that we will not be invited . I have great memories of the NIT championship won by a Redmen team led by Malik Sealy . I watched the final at a bar in Virginia .

I am hopeful they will get in, but it was a lot easier to get in when you own a piece of the tournament.

Top Left Bracket
1 Dayton / Toledo
4 Vanderbilt / Belmont
3 Florida / Iona
2 Xavier / Cleveland State

Bottom Left Bracket
1 Oklahoma / Missouri State
2 North Texas /  Texas State
3 Mississippi State / Virginia
4 Colorado / St. Bonaventure

Here is what “the Barking Cow” website (go ahead and laugh at the name but it is a legit site) had to say about the Johnnies going into today’s action:

St. John’sThe greatest program in college basketball history, the five or six-time NIT champions (they had to vacate one because of the Abe Keita scandal that wasn’t the Abe Keita scandal, again, who among us) are close to the cut line, but should be in. Bad loss at home to Pitt, not a lot of good wins considering how many opportunities they had, etc., but their nonconference schedule doesn’t look as bad on paper as it probably was, and you know the thought of the Red Storm playing at home in the Final Four gets the committee members’ hearts racing just as much as it does yours and mine.
