NIT

Uh no.  SJU put in a bid to host NIT so no they did not decline.

This actually makes it more embarrassing.

Embarassing but maybe we declined.

Towson, Nicholls, princeton, make it over st john's?
They are 3 of 9 automatic bids. So, at least 23 teams selected based on whatever criteria is used.
11 Automatic bids, not 12 as I previously stated.

Atlantic Sun: Jacksonville State - Because Bellarmine was ineligible to play in dance jacksonville state got NCAA bid
Big West: Long Beach State
CAA: Towson
Conference USA: North Texas - Only automatic bid to be seeded so they were in regardless
Ivy: Princeton
Missouri Valley: Northern Iowa
Sun Belt: Texas State
Horizon League: Cleveland State
MAAC: Iona
MAC: Toledo
Southland: Nicholls
SWAC: Alcorn State

If someone told me on October 31, 2021 that our beloved St John’s RedStorm would not make either the NCAA Tournament or the NIT I would not believed them.

Who knocked us from where the Barking Crow had us with the last at large bid. That was after Princeton won.

Meh. Who cares?

You either make the dance or you don’t.

Nothing about STJ’s season changed since the Nova loss.

If it were possible (I know it is not) St. John’s should challenge Syracuse University to a game to see who is the King of New York State basketball for 2022..

Oh wait, Iona College can claim the title as King of New York State because it qualified for the NIT and neither StJ nor SU did.

I was not confident given our record….probably a few teams that we could have been selected over but certainly not egregious omission for us to be left out.

I care.  As we’ve seen(and was pointed out on the selection show) the tourney has been a good place to get tournament experience so on the hope  and theory we return most of the guys (the only assumption we can make now) it would have helped this group.

In a sense, I’m glad we didn’t make the NIT. This should re-evaluate how AD approaches this program and how CMA responds. It would have been a bailout to get into the NIT and maybe win a game or 2. The reality is, we mostly had the talent but not the guy to put everyone in the best spot to succeed. The NC scheduling was atrocious and mostly no win situation. Aside from a flailing Xavier team, we don’t have quality wins. Seton hall was still adjusting to loss of Aiken.  I feel terrible for posh and champ. I feel like national tv needs to see them, esp Posh. Anyway, this is gonna be a loooong off season.

Who cares about making the Dance or the second rate NIT, Anderson still has his above 500 won loss record in tact. That must have been the priority of Cragg and Anderson as the lousy OOC schedule they created clearly cost the program an NIT bid at minimum.

Mike Cragg to CMA in the classic “All The Coach’s Men”:
You know the results of the latest Gallup Poll? Half the country never even heard of the NIT. Nobody gives a sh*t. You guys are probably pretty tired, right? Well, you should be. Go on home, get a nice hot bath. Rest up... 15 minutes. Then get your asses back in gear. We're under a lot of pressure, you know, and you put us there.

100 teams between both NCAA & NIT

All 100 teams may not be as talented, but 100 teams know how to win more than we did.

ESPN just announced " highest ratings ever for NIT Selection ESPNU show due to knucklehead St Johns Fans "

Someone posted earlier that the season was a failure. I disagree, not making the Dance is a failure, not making either tournament labels the season a disaster. If Anderson does return, he better right this ship fast. To do so may take a miraculous recruiting turn around.
