NIT

Any word on if Julian would sit this out? Feels pretty similar to college football players with their eyes on the NFL sitting out the meaningless bowl game in their final season. Don't see how Julian would measurably improve his stock in the NIT and God forbid he gets hurt or something

I know this is a train of thought but what is he just going to stop playing basketball? He can get hurt regardless so the other train of thought is you can't live in fear of getting hurt.

Would have a hard time believing champ wants that to be his last shot attempt at SJU

I could be wrong but I don't think players sitting out for the NIT is a thing.

Given we are possibly one of the final teams in, here are conference winners to root for so they don't steal NIT auto-bids:

Norfolk St- up 15 currently (ESPN2)
Alcorn St- 6:00 PM (ESPNU)
Montana St- 8:00 PM (ESPNU)
New Mexico St- 10:00 PM (ESPNU)
Long Beach St- 11:30 PM (ESPN2)
Princeton- 12:00 PM tomorrow (ESPN2)

Doubt anyone will watch all of these (I'm not going to either), but worth keeping tabs on. Lots of Vegas toss-ups.

Daniel Gafford did it during Anderson's last year at Arkansas, with the coach's support.  Of course, that was a different situation, since Gafford was a projected mid-to-late first rounder, and had too much to lose.

Without him, they actually beat Providence at the Dunk in their first game, before losing by 2 at Indiana.

Story about that, with video from Anderson:

Call me crazy but the NIT is loaded w/ good teams.  Florida, ND, the bonnies etc.  We could easily lose in the 1st round.

We need to bring our A game to even advance past Round 1 in this tourney.

Something tells me Eric or Monte has money on all those games

Or Eric AND Monte

I'm looking forward to the NIT. It's infinitely better than no St. John's basketball until November.

But now that I'm into it, it will be soul crushing if we don't get in.

Update for the 3 NIT bracketologists I could find:

https://www.dratings.com/predictor/bracketology/

6 seed (2nd- playing 3 St. Bonaventure). According to this there are 10 auto bids and 2 are ahead of us (North Texas and ironically Iona). There are only 2 at-large teams behind us, so we are "in" by only 3 spots.

https://thebarkingcrow.com/nit-bracketology/

7 seed (1st- playing 2 Rutgers): According to this there are 9 auto bids (different from the site above for some reason). There is one at-large team behind us, so we're the second to last team in.

https://nitbracketology.blogspot.com/p/current-nit-bracket.html

6 seed (4th- playing 3 Saint Louis): According to this there are 10 auto bids (same as dratings). There is one at-large team behind us, so we're the second to last team in.

Need to root for PRINCETON today, they are currently down 5 to Yale in the second half. If they lose then we'd be the final team in for 2/3 bracketologists, and the second to last team in for the other.

But if we root for Princeton they will for sure lose. If we want them to win we would be better off rooting for Yale.

Adam,

I took a look at the dratings seeding earlier and they have at least 7 teams seeded ahead of us whose NET rankings are below us (some by quite a bit). I don't knwo how much NEt comes into play for the NIT but believe it does.

I think it's similar to the NCAAT selections where Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4 games play a major role.

Princeton lost by 2 on a last second turnover, which means they will now steal an additional auto-bid. St. John's may end up the final team into the field, or just outside it. Ugh. I still think we'll make it, but nothing would surprise me.

Princeton botched last possession. Didn’t come close to getting a shot up.
