NIT

How about winning the NIT,that would save the season lol
If everyone returns, it would save NEXT season. I think it would be an excellent springboard into the 2023 Big Dance, regardless of how many posters seem to hate the NIT.

given how emotional our guys were last night, playing in the NIT seems further salt in the wound.  our guys are emotionally spent. no need to get revved up for a useless tournament that nothing good can come from it.
Spent from what?  They werent even close to the bubble to get in the ncaa tourney.  And for an automatic bid, they won 1 game when they had to win 4.

This team had about a 1% chance to dance.  You cant be crushed when the 99% chance of happening happens.

They should be fired up to play in the NIT as that has been the only possibility for a while now.

You're joking right.  I guess you have never seen a team with nothing to gain give its all out on a court or a field and be crushed by not winning?

Can’t imagine Posh not wanting to compete at anything.

I just don't get where this disdain for the NIT comes from. As players, you get a chance to end the season on a less disappointing note. You get to play with your teammates for at least one more time. Maybe even winning it all for your school. That vacated NIT won by St. John's when Hatten was here was very exciting for the players and the fans. If they get a NIT invite, they should happily accept it, and then give it their all-which they almost always do.

Very exciting for some fans but not all as some were disappointed in going to the NIT when we basically had the same team from the  year before that actually went to the dance.

Exciting for some of the players except for at least two who demonstrated a total lack of emotion as the rest of their teammates celebrated while they stood together off to the side.  They had already checked out and did transfer.

Could be a building block for a team going into the next season however that didn't exactly work out for the last team of ours that won the NIT (as you mentioned vacated).

Exciting for some players unless they are done with the season and are empty uniforms at home against an inferior first round opponent like the last time we were in the NIT.

Personally I hope they do go because as Coach Carnesecca would say ("You don't want to but the balls away") and it might help some of the players who we hope come back next year (and maybe even Champ if he can get on a role).  Just don't ask me to get excited about it unless with make it to MSG for the semis.  My focus will be on seeing what the Yanks do for their roster and the real tournament.  Now if this team wasn't expected to be dancing or at least a bubble team, my excitement would probably be different but no.

Lastly, if you or others think Anderson is going to play certain guys more to get ready for next season, he is going to play whomever he thinks will provide him with the best opportunity to win the particular game he is playing that day (barring no discipline issues).  If he doesn't think one those players people want to see more doesn't do that, then they aren't going to see the time you want.

Right now CMA's agent is salivating at the prospect of a deep NIT run.

exactly

It can be weird how minds work. Well, my mind. I don't remember one thing from the 2003 NIT, and I went to the semis and finals. On the other hand, I can still remember Jarvis being on Mike and the Mad Dog the day after the last game saying SJU was one of only two teams that could say they were champions. Which was technically true but if you heard the way he said it he sounded like a clown. And sure enough Mike, who must be the most disloyal graduate the school ever produced, mocked him pretty good as soon as he got off the line.

The elitists who somehow believe that the NIT is beneath the dignity of (rah- rah) St. John's will be happy to know that as of today one bracktologist predicts that the stormin Red Storm will be  not invited.

I am not an NIT Bracketology expert so I don't know if the Barking Crow will be right but looking at the teams in there, I would say we are on the bubble. My gut tells me we get in and I hope we do because it would be nice to see the kids play another game or two but I have the NCAA tournament to watch as well as some Mets spring training so I will be ok regardless. More interested to see how our team evolves for next season over the next six months,

Barking Crow is barking at the moon - at a glance there are at least 3 teams in there that are going to be in the NCAA tournament.

Had St. John's gone last year then maybe they would've had a better year this year. Certainly couldn't have been much worse. They choked in every big situation and could've used more big game experience. Yes, the NIT games are still big. ...

Since only three of last year's players returned this year -- coupled with eight new players on the roster -- I don't think being in last year's NIT would have been of much benefit, if any at all, on how things played out this year's play -- especially if we didn't go deep in that tournament.

The NIT is one thing but please if our March Mania (NIT) bubble bursts - I draw the line at the CBI, or CBT, or whatever else is out there. Even I have some standards.

Contrary to the honorable Otis's link to the barking crows, we should be a 5 or high 6 seed in the NIT. He really needs to stay away from those out-of-bounds websites.

I personally would love to play Dayton in the first round and plan to go if possible.

I disagree because Champ and Posh are often the players with the ball during late game sequences, such as last night. That's when games are won or lost.

Both players are awesome and I'd take them any year, but neither thus far has been a clutch "winner" like Ponds or Harrison. Maybe all it would've taken was some additional confidence from a couple NIT wins last year, which could've translated to more wins this year. On the other hand, a bad NIT loss could've pushed them more during the off-season the way Lavin's team that lost to Robert Morris came back and made the Tournament the following year. I really see no upside to declining an invite, and believe had we accepted last year we'd at a minimum be on the bubble this year.

I'm not blaming any one player, maybe Champ, Posh and Wusu wanted to play last year but the rest of the team didn't. That said, avoiding things has been a major issue with this team, from avoiding the NIT last year to avoiding a remotely challenging OOC schedule this year. It hasn't worked and hopefully the entire team is on board with an NIT invite. I really wanted to see them play in it last year and I'm looking forward to Selection Sunday this year.

I get it, I lived in Raleigh for many years (the heart of ACC country). Many consider the NIT a joke, but avoiding the NIT is a much bigger joke IMO.

I asked the barking crow guy on twitter about St. John's he said he has them as his last team out as of today, but thinks they'll probably end up being anywhere from a 5-7 seed depending on how things go with automatic bids.

Adam, do you really think having Champ and Posh play in, say, two or three NIT games would've turned them into "clutch winners" this season? I have to disagree. Besides -- and this is all conjecture, of course -- there's no way of knowing if they'd even be playing in games that they be called on to close out.
