NIL’s

It's a kid. It's absolutely relevant to my kid 20k in college example. That's my belief. And again what I'm telling you is a macro point of view. Working in finance I look at the big picture. It's very simple. If other states offer state tax free income for NIL that makes it harder on states that tax it. Therefore they have to pay more to compensate for other offers.

I have friends that live in Florida 6 months and a day then come back up here. You don't know anyone that does it

Also going back to nypd Is their pensions state taxable ? don't even answer I already know it. It's not
Pensioners pensions from the State or a municipality within the State of New York are indeed exempt from State pensions.

NY is **already** at a major inherent disadvantage, being one of the highest tax states. Which you know. And like every other employer in NY, I'm sure SJU already grosses up compensation to employees they want to attract from lower-tax states to make up for the difference. It's standard practice and it would continue under your fantasy scenario.

If you think taxpayers in all 49 states other than NY are going to sit back and allow a group of highly paid athletes to avoid paying income tax, you're dreaming.
lololololol

ok lets get off the 49 #. Let's just go to basketball states. If all those states make NIL tax free for the 100 etc people do you think. that put's NY at a disadvantage ? More importantly do you think there are economic benefits for having a good basketball team in NY and does that have any effect on revenue ? SO is it possible the NIL can pay for itself or yet be net positive

This is actually an insane line of reasoning. Should we make the Knicks players' salaries exempt from state income tax? Aren't there economic benefits to having a good pro basketball team in NY??

One last time: These are not "college kids", they are highly paid professionals and like everyone else, should pay their income taxes.

Final word.

It wouldn’t be 49 states besides Arkansas as 9 other states (Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming) do not collect State income tax.

again I know you are a good poster I've read your posts and like you. But unless you have ADHD it's not hard top follow my post. If all basketball states exempt NIL and Young Redenbacher played hoops and your offer was a mill a year. Knowing at a basketball state you willl take home 60k more roughly and this part of your career is 4 years are you saying you personally would rather pay more taxes ?

Perhaps it is time to take this discussion private!

College football at flagship state universities means everything in certain states. Maybe five or so basketball schools too.

Taxpayers making crap money bleed their school colors for a few hours in stadium, TV or bar on a Saturday afternoon to get a W to feel good or brag rest of week. Be surprised how many of them would support this to keep winning and not lose to their rival. Many don't have a pro team either.

Wait Redenbacher is in the portal?

FWIW MJM i think your idea is ridiculous as well but not enough to get into a debate about it except to say I don't see Arkansas as the guiding star for public policy.

Imho everyone who earns W-2 income should pay state income taxes under the rules of their state college student or not. My son paid it on the $15k he made in 2024 while a college student but he benefits from favorable tuition rates for instate students.
For me it’s a simple cut and dried issue not a fan of special exemptions but that’s just me.

I'm absolutely pro working like your son. I just don't think when you bust your ass in college that then you should pay. fully admit they're areas many holes in my theory as a dems like logen oh wait he's not a dem. But that's just me. I also don't like cut out tax exemptions that benefit people like me but lets keep it to NIL because I see where someone thinks

Arkansas just passed a law that payments made to college athletes directly from universities will be exempt from state income tax. That should go over really well with ordinary citizens who actually have to pay income tax on their earnings!

Under the law – which amended the Arkansas Student-Athlete Publicity Rights Act – funds related to NIL or revenue-sharing directly from a university will be exempt from state income tax. Additionally, the bill states financial information related to payments to athletes will be confidential and not subject to the Freedom of Information Act.

Did anyone look up Arkansas state income tax? They are unlike anything I’ve seen. Very punitive for those folks making exactly 89,601 dollars annually.

I could see some people not like it the exceptions and I’m not sure how Arkansas voters will like it, but I am confident we won’t lose recruits to Arkansas state income tax policies. We may lose recruits to Cal and the Razorback boosters but, 3.9% savings… nah I don’t see it.
