Next Coach?

Unless we are willing to shell out HUGE $$$ to get Donovan, Cal, or Pitino $7mill a year or so, which I seriously doubt. Give me Tim Cluess

One of these things, is not like the other. One of these things just doesn't belong...

Holy all or nothing Batman. But there are many names that would not cost nearly as much as $7 million (money this school will never pay anyway ), that would be better hires than Cluess.

Some fans here do not realize what our assistants are costing AND coach Keady stipend and housing costs more than many mid major assistants. Look up the salary of the Stony Brook and Buffalo coaches. Heck, Ron Naclario would take the job on an interim basis for a years' supply of Under Armour sweats. And he would literally sleep in Tafner rather than accept a housing allowance.

Well Naclerio has been reputed to have had out of district "recruits" sleep in his house to declare residency, so he probably could use a place to stay himself.

I can't believe some of you think Willard's recruiting has been great. If it wasn't for hiring kids coaches he never would have landed this freshmen crop. He got desperate and did what he needed to do.

The policy regarding attending a zoned school no longer exists at the DOE. Kids can apply to any school in NYC. Desi Rodriguez was from the Bronx but attended Lincoln.

I didn't mean to say Willard was great I was just trying to prove that NY recruits are in fact good and seton hall is proof of that because carrington, Delgado, whitehead, Rodriguez have all looked good.

He did what he had to do. If he wins maybe he starts to get better players without the tricks. He new his situation and did what he had to do. Is what he did a bad thing, or is running your team into the ground and out of players the better way to go?

There are at least 4 or 5 Division 1 recruits every year in the NY metro area. Last year the best we did was an ineligible Adonis. Lavin likes out of area recruits, especially if it means a trip to New Orleans, LA, Miami, Rome or San Francisco. From Myles Davis to Kenton Facey we got not a one. Embarrassing is the only word that comes to mind.

I understand wanting to recruit nationally, but i think for a school like us whose past good teams were always made up of mostly NY kids, it doesnt make sense to me to go away from a formula that worked.

And i am not saying every good kid pre Lavin was from NY because we had Lavar, Bootsy and Hatten from out of state among others but the majority of our players were from NY.

I am also not saying he shouldnt recruit nationally - its great to be in the mix with kids from all over but dont ignore local talent for national talent that isnt coming here.....or for national talent thats a reach (IE - wont qualify, behavioral issues, etc).

Angel Delgado--who could be at least (if not more) impactful to Seton Hall than Whitehead--committed before Whitehead did. You can't use the "Willard hired the kid's coach" excuse there.

Well one can surmise that hiring Antigua after the Delgado commit was merely a formality

You mean Oliver Antigua? He was not Delgado's HS coach.

Thanks. Good hire for Willard, didn't have to keep him on staff very long.

was certainly a very good short term investment. Delgado looks real good

I didn't mean to say Willard was great I was just trying to prove that NY recruits are in fact good and seton hall is proof of that because carrington, Delgado, whitehead, Rodriguez have all looked good.

Coach Willard had an eye for talent by recruiting Sterling Gibbs out of high school and again as a Texas transfer while Lav and his hardworking staff did not (as evidenced by Rivals and other recruiting sites).

"Mr" Otis are you prepared to congratulate staff on verbal commitment of Brandon Sampson if or when that occurs, or will you remain silent? Not a fan of SL, but what's fair is fair.

No different than hiring Walter Berry's mom after he committed. I am an advocate of doing anything within the rules to get what you need.

I give Walter and his Mom a slight edge over Harvey and Perter as the best package deal we've ever had here..
