Next Coach?

Since UCLAs complaints of Lavin turned out to be spot on, what do the UCLA fans say about howland??

I've heard most of his success came with other peoples players

The guy is Cleuss. He would bring something here that we have not had in a long, long time. Local guy who can recruit locally; proven winner and team builder. We need a guy who can and is willing to build a PROGRAM, not just a guy who brings a big name and rep. We need a guy who knows bb and will work to install a system and recruit bb players to play within that system, not just athletic guys who are not a coherent group.

Why are you so insistent on the need to recruit locally? The talent locally is not what it used to be, and there is so much greater talent all over the country.

Seton Hall took 1 year to get ranked with a ton of New York kids on their roster

are you referring to Kevin Willard with a 26–49 (.351) Big East conference record including this year.
Can't be this guy, who everyone in Jersey was calling for his head . No not this guy.

Im still a big Lav fan, but I will say that I like what Kevin Williard is doing at Seton Hall alot!! That guy is a rising star!

Cappy his conference record 26–49 (.351) that is a lot of star to rise.

As long as you are going to continue trying to push buttons, the difference is Kevin Willard never stopped working; he never took recruiting years off. And he was finally rewarded with a stellar class of freshman that, OMG, all qualified. And a team that has played its best ball without the star of that class. Imagine SJU if we lost Harrison; it would be a reasonable facsimile to what we are facing next year.

Agreed, local talent is fine. There isn't a poster on this board that wouldn't take Rawle Alkins in a heartbeat

There is a recurring theme that pops up on the board from time to time about local kids. The two things that bother me the most are when I hear that "there is not as much talent locally as there used to be" and "local kids want to get out of the city"...yes, some want to get far away from their situation, but there's also a lot of kids that would stay if they were recruited properly. There's a TON of talent in NY/NJ, and we are rarely in the mix.

Its akin to living in Brazil but choosing to travel the globe in search of hot women

Some guys like original body parts. :cheer:
I think there has been a past poster or 2 who store body parts in their refrigerator :)

Jeffrey Dahmer was a solid poster.

Here is the criteria I would use to grade Coach Lavin (or any Coach):

Wins/Losses 56% C
Conference wins 53% C

St.Johns Big East Conference record under Lav is 36 wins and 39 losses being 48%

2010/11 record = 12/6
2011/12 record = 6/12
2012/13 record = 8/10
2013/14 record = 10/8
2014/15 record = 0/3

Correct... and further proof that Wikipedia is not a reliable source :silly:

Do you include or exclude the games where Dunlap coached?

Hand on a bible. Are you a Seton Hall fan disguising yourself?

From the minute you started posting on here, I have had the sense you are a Seton Hall fan. You are not a rebel rouser like the Iona moron, but gun to the head I would say you bleed blue.
Nothing wrong with that and all are welcomed for great discussion, which you seem to provide, unlike somebody else.

Salty, you and I see eye to eye on a ton of stuff, but if you check out all the recruiting circuits he is in on a ton of recruits, and most of the local kids too. I also love his humble demeanor.

Unless we are willing to shell out HUGE $$$ to get Donovan, Cal, or Pitino $7mill a year or so, which I seriously doubt. Give me Tim Cluess

I have been on this board for years, first as Littlemin and now as Logen. I am a stoned SJU fan and have been for years, but unlike many here I don't hate our rivals. If they were not playing SJU I rooted for all BE teams. I am from Jersey so I root for Seton Hall except when the play SJU. I don't know why you got the impression I am a Hall fan because I certainly don't comment on them all that much. But so be it. I have probably commented more about Rutgers in relation to their football program of which I am a fan.

One of these things, is not like the other. One of these things just doesn't belong...

Holy all or nothing Batman. But there are many names that would not cost nearly as much as $7 million (money this school will never pay anyway ), that would be better hires than Cluess.

Same here, believe me I have been called a lot worse than a Seton Hall fan (and deservedly so)

Some fans here do not realize what our assistants are costing AND coach Keady stipend and housing costs more than many mid major assistants. Look up the salary of the Stony Brook and Buffalo coaches. Heck, Ron Naclario would take the job on an interim basis for a years' supply of Under Armour sweats. And he would literally sleep in Tafner rather than accept a housing allowance.
