The two things that bother me the most are when I hear that "there is not as much talent locally as there used to be" and "local kids want to get out of the city"...yes, some want to get far away from their situation, but there's also a lot of kids that would stay if they were recruited properly. There's a TON of talent in NY/NJ, and we are rarely in the mix.

I'm sorry.....but when was it announced that Lavin was going to be fired this year? Could someone please post the link.....

Relax... the natives do this whenever we hit a rough patch.. makes everyone feel better, so go with it.

hardly, this native does it because we have had countless "rough patches" over the last 5 years; both on and off the court. Poor recruiting effort, shoddy or no due diligence on those recruits interested or planning on attending SJU, poor development and/or complete non-use of players HE recruited and then talked up, inane game and substitution strategies, etc, etc., etc. My opinion has nothing to do with losing a couple of games, this team has achieved all that can be expected IMO and I enjoy watching them and respect them. I do not consider my feelings about Lavin to be in "conflict" with anyone who feels differently and it does not make me feel better at all that we potentially face another coaching change but nothing, and I mean nothing, Lavin has done makes me feel he is the guy to lead us into the future. In 5 years. He had a good initial recruiting class (albeit with issues even after recruits were committed) and then a highly rated player he can't even begin to control; other than that zero. I hope we make the tourney and go deep and we might but even if we do it won't change my opinion of Lavin one bit; to me he conjures up memories of Jarvis, no substance, a lot of lazy and arrogant.

Look, you can't do a damned thing about it except post incessantly about how Lavin sucks, so if it doesn't affect change, and doesn't make you feel better, than just don't post the same stuff repeatedly and enjoy the season. And if you can't enjoy the season, pick a team that is at the top of whatever sport you like, and follow them. Think of how ridiculous this stupid crap is. All it took was three games - THREE FRICKIN GAMES OUT OF 15 - for the mob to come out with pitchforks. IF they win three straight, SOME GUYS will shut up for a while. Others will continue to blabber the same stuff, and some will just wait till we lose a few more. Worse than this crappy school, with a crappy athletic department, is our crappy alumni who contribute at a rate far too low to make a difference in athletic budgets.

Of course I write you that the THREE FRICKING GAMES make no difference to me and you answer with how the THREE FRICKIN GAMES is all it took. I write that I am enjoying the season and current team and you answer that if I "can't enjoy the season" etc. You post taking a shot at anyone who doesn't agree with your "all is rosy" point of view and then object to a reply. I post more than just my dislike for Lavin but you choose to ignore those and focus on the posts you dislike. I post my opinion and if you don't like it please ignore my posts. But here's a novel idea, if you are going to comment on my posts, READ THEM, and reply to what I ACTUALLY WRITE not your cockamamie interpretation. It's funny I have never told you to stop posting these insistent posts telling us how wonderful Lavin and the program is so why are you compelled to try and tell me what to post? I don't like Lavin, I don't think he has remotely worked hard enough to earn the salary he was given and I will post what I want when I want until paul or his representatives tell me to stop. Do me and your blood pressure a favor, DON"T READ THEM!!!

I'm sure some ppl can't wait. I'll be honest if he makes the tournament this year I'd give him another two yrs. to see what happens. I've never entertained this thought but if we go to NIT this year and he is retained I don't know if I can support the program until there's a change. So I guess time will tell[/quote]

What about if he doesn't get any top recruits, or any good transfers?

I'm suggesting you guys post something new. We went 11-1, and I was among the first to propose caution. People swooned over a 15 ranking, and I said I didn't think we belonged there and certainly had not proved it in meaningful games. A thread developed with people urging us to extend Lavin, and I said let the season play out. You say I haven't read all of your tedious complaining, and you are right. But why not give it a rest and see how the season plays out, because I assure you if we get a damned bid (which I think is doubtful) and if Lavin pulls in a Diallo or more, 3/4 of the complainers here will stop.

If you think the response here isn't kneejerk, just do a study of ratio of positive posts at 11-1, compared to those following an 0-3 BE start. If you can't acknowledge that, then you aren't very balanced.

Please, read MY posts if you want to comment on MY posts. I am not George Gallup and couldn't care less about your analysis of cumulative posts on the board by every poster vis a vis our record. I don't care what you posted when we were 11-1. Quite frankly, I don't care how the season plays out in MY evaluation of Lavin; I have seen him in action for 5 years and am not even remotely impressed (obviously.) To me, other posters opinions are just that and while I may vehemently disagree I at least try to respect that fact and react accordingly; I don't always succeed because I am stubborn and opinionated and many times react as such. One of the reasons I love this board; it allows me to discuss a subject I am very passionate about and have been for a long time. I don't see anyone telling you what to post but you like many Lavin supporters seem hell bent on telling others what or when to post. If it bothers you or ruins your enjoyment of SJU hoops to read these posts after we lose a few games I respectfully suggest you stay off the board.

Here is the criteria I would use to grade Coach Lavin (or any Coach):

Wins/Losses 56% C
Conference wins 53% C

St.Johns Big East Conference record under Lav is 36 wins and 39 losses being 48%

2010/11 record = 12/6
2011/12 record = 6/12
2012/13 record = 8/10
2013/14 record = 10/8
2014/15 record = 0/3

As many have stated before me, I believe Lavin will be gone after the season.
We will not be able to field a team after this season other than walk ons and whatever leftovers there are in recruiting. I am done with this bozo.
As a long time season ticket holder and 85 grad, I am not looking forward to this season slip sliding away and a 5-20 2015/2016 season.
Thanks Steve for leaving the well so dry. Hope you like ESPN.
Fire Monasch as well for letting this happen.

Any pro/former pro coaches in the mix?
Mark Jackson, etc.
