Next Coach?

Marillac is..

A) drunk

B ) has had his computer hacked

C) was waiting till the end of the season to let loose about Lavin

Choice C. The seniors deserved our support. Also, any coach should at least get a chance to see his first recruiting class finish before a decision is made.

I can't take losing this way. I knew we lost five minutes in and that is a horrible feeling. I had the same feeling five years ago when Gonzaga dismantled us. Both of those teams followed every shot with 2-3 guys. Outside of Harrison and the few mins from Alibegovic, nobody was within five feet of the basket on any miss. That is not St. John's basketball.

I appreciate what Lavin has done for us. He rescued us from complete irrelevancy after the dark ages under Norm. The next coach will actually have something to build on because of him. It's time to move on.

I felt the exact same way watching this game. When SDSU was playing volleyball with offensive rebounds and tipins I knew we were in for it. (Polees ridiculous 3s also helped with that feeling that it wasn't going to be our night). Very similar to 2010.

I do agree that Lavin has left the program better than when he got here.

In regards to replacing Lavin, this can't be overlooked:
ADR
Amir
Balamou
Sampson
One of the two freshman guards?

What promising coach is going to get all excited about that?

@AdamZagoria: Lavin on Obekpa: "I wouldn't be surprised at all if he doesn't return to St. John's." So there you go.

well, there's the first bit of good news
the only problem is, who's going to take his place? I'm not counting on Diello.

I guess I'm not looking at individuals or specific positions...we are a mess on paper for next year at this point. To his credit, Lavin started a brand, and the university can either run with it or be happy with being relevant in a completely mediocre fashion.

1. Archie Miller
2A and 2B - Smart and Marshall
3. Jay Wright-- I mean Bobby Hurley, sorry thought this was 2001
4. Danny Hurley
5. Ben Howland

I'm No. With the way things are with St. John's. Jackson comes here, fails, it would be really hard for the school to fire him. The relationship between him and the school would be ruined. So I am not in favor of mark Jackson.

Is it truly out of the question that the administration is talking with Mark Jackson about running the Johnnies as coach?

i suggested that long ago and was shot down repeatedly

Mark Jackson never got his complete due with the Warriors. I know the owner did not like his style especially in the locker room. He is also a preacher, Mark is a great leader and can be a very good teacher to the players that the school brings.

Unfortunately, he probably will cost too much unless he really wants this job. I don't think either SJU or Mark would be worried about firing someone. I'd give Mark 5 years just like we have given Lavin 5 years.

What relationship is there to ruin? Jackson hasn't had ties with the school for awhile.
he holds grudgres like a 14yr old girl

Forget Mark Jackson. That is a disaster waiting to happen. Bobby Hurley destroys Jackson in nearly every category when it comes to college basketball--playing careers, coaching experience, recruiting experience, winning....

Does anyone really think Bobby Hurley is going to fail?

He has no relationship with the school to ruin.

Yeah he did a good job of it in the pros. Before the accident he was not playing well. People are going crazy about a guy with one year of experience? If college playing career is that valued to you push for Laettner then.

It's also the pedigree. gym rat, coach's son, etc.

I think what I am trying to say is the school looks bad if they fire one their legends. Idk just a gut feeling that a potential mark Jackson hire isn't going to pan out very well. There plenty of other candidates out there if lavin doesn't return.

interview Monday, job on Tuesday. Sampson and Doughty stay, Jordan stays, and at worst we have a season like Marquette had this year.

Hurley may turn out to be a great coach, but anointing him as the next big thing after one year? He is basically the flavor of the month. Give Georgia ST two more wins and people will start clamoring for him. Honestly I would like Howland. If we get a Hurley fine but neither is any kind of sure thing at this point.
