Hit, you really think that is a slam dunk based off one year at Buffalo? I am not saying he won't turn out ok, but I don't get all warm and fuzzy over it.

My concern isn't with who the next coach is... be it either Hurley, Mas, Howland.. whatever. My worry is that they're given the same resources to build a staff and travel as Lavin was.
I can forsee a situation where the new president looks to make a cost cutting move.

Unfortunately, that is a real possibility. From a business standpoint, you're not getting what you paid for with Lavins contract/performance. His salary cannot be justified.
 
We desperately need a coach not a personality...It sucks we are going down the crapper next season.

I think Lavin bails for a tv job...Someone like FOX Sports will pick him up

I am actually higher on Danny. He's done it in the a10 they are a top 25 team next year. They were a five win team two years ago when he took over.

Not that it matters, and it def doesn't matter to me but supposedly he is a bit of a jerk. Only reason I bring it up is I am not sure how that interview would play out. I think SJU goes safe. I would be happy with Howland, I know some wouldn't.

CBS news after the game just had the lead in to the game " st john's stalls in NCAAs , now is this the end for coach Lavin". this isnt a secret and the news is on it already.

I get it but it is not like with how Jarvis went out, so they needed to go in a totally different direction, hence Norm. Or after finally canning Norm they decided to go with a real live coach. Even if they are not happy with Lavin and it wasn't great, if it ends he was ok. There should not be a need to drastically go in another direction. Other than getting a better X and O guy.

Mutual parting, keep things positive, classy exit. move on and move quickly so we have a shot to salvage next year. Next year is not a loss yet, there are coaches and players out there.

For the most part I don't think he did a bad coaching job this season. Roster makeup was seriously flawed. Margin for error was just to small for us.
 
Is it truly out of the question that the administration is talking with Mark Jackson about running the Johnnies as coach?

If jordan goes which is possible we can be looking at one of the worst SJU teams in history.

Lavin really did a poor job recruiting and filling holes. Will be awful to wAtch next yr.

Choice C. The seniors deserved our support. Also, any coach should at least get a chance to see his first recruiting class finish before a decision is made.

I can't take losing this way. I knew we lost five minutes in and that is a horrible feeling. I had the same feeling five years ago when Gonzaga dismantled us. Both of those teams followed every shot with 2-3 guys. Outside of Harrison and the few mins from Alibegovic, nobody was within five feet of the basket on any miss. That is not St. John's basketball.

I appreciate what Lavin has done for us. He rescued us from complete irrelevancy after the dark ages under Norm. The next coach will actually have something to build on because of him. It's time to move on.

I watched the press conference on YouTube.

I think Lavin zigged when he should have zagged with that comment. His tone made me believe that he actually thinks Obekpa will be back.

Sometimes, we all mean to say one thing, and say the opposite by accident (happens to him a lot, unfortunately).

if we have a coach in place with a plan and a good group of assistants , i can take a few seasons of bad to medicore basketball. Hey I did that for 7 years with norm with no chance of success. make the move now and go .
