Next Coach?

We have beaten this topic to death but it's so crucial for the future of the program. Either let him go or extend him. We cannot have a lame duck coach. Cannot recruit with that hanging over the program.Besides Sampson he lavin lost his recruiting mojo so it's it's a tough call.

my heart of hearts tells me lavin stays. but we need somebody else. we are going to be the worst team in the conference next season

I am not sure he wants to be here anymore. Just a feeling I get watching him. Base off nothing really. I doubt we get an upgrade, I am ok either way I guess. Made the tourney twice, during Norm years I never thought we would make it again. If he does leave no hard feelings on my part.

Have had same feeling about his desires. As you, just my gut.

Time to move on from Lavin. Aggressive hire needed. I just can't stand this style of basketball.

If Lavin goes, I don't know how you can think a big-time, known coach, would come here. Not with the way the roster presently shakes out.

If you're OK with a young up-and-comer, and OK with the fact that, if successful, he's gone for greener pastures in 3 or 4 years, then you make the change (with that expectation in mind).

Other coaches just seemed to have more fire, even Fisher and he is like 90.Not a bash and it is not his fault we lost outside of the fact that even with CO we were too small. It is funny when he talks about he contract situation not bothering him, I believed him.

His postgame quotes after the BET Providence beatdown were telling. SJU is not a good fit for him, and I think he knows it.

Hammer will drop very soon.

No time to waste. Lock up one of the Hurleys long term.

The fan base deserves better than Lavin's abominable March showings at St. John's. It's unacceptable.

I think coach has seen the writing on the wall here.
If they were going to extend him they could've done it last year, or last summer, or over the fall, or at the end of the regular season. He knows this. Hes tried to press the issue. But to no avail. And the administration had to know it would tie his hands a little in recruiting.

Hit, you really think that is a slam dunk based off one year at Buffalo? I am not saying he won't turn out ok, but I don't get all warm and fuzzy over it.

An overall commitment to upgrading the program will attract the right person to coach. We can be the green pasture. I don't want to have a mid-major mentality, and I hope the school feels the same way.

Too much instability w him. No excuse for such a short roster and lack of bigs. Thinking about next years roster is scary. Not only did the short bench hurt this year but it will hurt next year because no BE calibre players to step into the starting lineup. Time to move in.

My concern isn't with who the next coach is... be it either Hurley, Mas, Howland.. whatever. My worry is that they're given the same resources to build a staff and travel as Lavin was.
I can forsee a situation where the new president looks to make a cost cutting move.

I am actually higher on Danny. He's done it in the a10 they are a top 25 team next year. They were a five win team two years ago when he took over.

Not that it matters, and it def doesn't matter to me but supposedly he is a bit of a jerk. Only reason I bring it up is I am not sure how that interview would play out. I think SJU goes safe. I would be happy with Howland, I know some wouldn't.
