"Despite being picked by the league’s coaches to finish third, Lavin led the Johnnies (21-11) to a fifth-place finish."
Come on zach, are you really gonna try to make it sound like the regular season was a failure ??
Zach shouldn't be brought back. Journalists are supposed to report in a neutral fashion. Zach's bias is clear and he panders to the anti-Lavin crowd which he mistakenly believes is the majority just because they are the most vocal on WFAN, Redmen, and JJ.
That quote by Zach is just absurd. We missed 3rd place by a four point loss to Butler due to Rysheed not playing.
When you say that he "mistakenly believes is the majority.....", do you have some statistics to show that it's not the majority? Or is that just your "unbiased" opinion?
It is clearly my opinion. Does that really need to be qualified? It's a message board so you should assume every post begins with "In my opinion...."
When you proclaim that he panders to the anti-lavin crowd because he mistakenly thinks they're the majority, I am just wondering where you came up with that? I have no idea one way or the other what the split is. If I had to guess I would put it at 50//50. And when I say that I mean people who think Lavin is the long term answer and those who don't. Of course then there's the proverbial "don't know" group.
Monte, I have no idea what the % split is. I know that some very good fans and very good posters have been driven away by the constant negativity on these boards. I personally know several.
The tone of the tweets to Zach and posts on JJ and Redmen is very negative, but most negative people seem to be the most vocal and many have multiple screen names. I think the fans that show up to games is generally pro-Lavin while it is probably closer to 50/50 on Redmen and JJ, but after a loss it feels a lot more like 95/5 anti-Lavin.

I wouldn't classify it as a resounding success Jack.
Considering the circumstances, our most talented team in awhile, and senior laden with experience, it was a mediocre regular season.
Or what?Accurate assessment of Zach/Lavin relationship. That said, they remain on the same SoHo bowling team. Go figure!"Despite being picked by the league’s coaches to finish third, Lavin led the Johnnies (21-11) to a fifth-place finish."

Desco. the regular season is what is projected to get this team to the NCAA - despite the poor showing yesterday. Mediocre does not get you a bid. Stick your other points. This one does not help your argument.
As for Zach, it is well known to any reader of this board that he and Lavin dislike each other since at least last year when Zach ran his piece that Lavin is not supported by influential supporters of the program - their poor relationship probably goes back further. I do think Lavin made a mistake going against the hoops writer of the one of the few local papers that cover local teams.
Lavin should buy him a new bowling ball.
And a new pocket protector. Braziller needs to stfu and quick.
On a professional level not everyone at the Post is happy with the way he is letting his personal bias towards Lavin color the way he covers the team. I'll leave it at that.
I call BS on that.
And I can verify it real easily.
But the bigger issue is that somebody doesn't like reading things he disagrees with.
I didn't see you complaining about Megdal's story last week when he was praising Lavin. Now that someone is holding him accountable you're crying for unbiased journalists.
The next edition of the Post that is unbiased (or even qualifies as "journalism"), will be the first.

I thought it was that close but we finished 10-8. The second and third place teams finished 12-6

Zach has a personal problem with Lavin. How does he know that no one has spoken to Lavin about an extension ? Did our President call up Zach and say he was not talking about Lavin's future at St Johns. Zach continues to look for anything to complain about regarding. He still hasn't gotten over not hearing from Rysheed, smh.
I lost respect for Zach at the beginning of the year when he wrote a column stating that Lavin wanted to leave St Johns and go back to ESPN. He allowed himself to be used as a tool by others who had their own agenda regarding Lavin. Sometimes I think that Avon and his Daddy proof read Zach's columns before they go to print.

Let's face it boys (and Linda Mirabella) there are dozens of vocal Steve Lavin haters that mimic each other like copy cat killers on social media. Many are pathological head cases while some have sincere concerns over the St. John's basketball program. There are a handful that are both and they are mounting a holy crusade to dislodge this infidel from Lou Carnesecca's mythical throne.
Quite a cast of characters with most hiding behind multiple screen names except for the ever intrepid Sammy who doesn't give a fck what anyone thinks and who is the leader of the crusaders. Sammy religiously attends Sunday Mass before proceeding to vilify his arch enemy Steve (but it's nothing personal) Lavin. He sees himself as the ultimate judge of good character. The problem is he has been such a poor judge of character in the past that relying on his opinion on Lavin is not for the faint of heart. You see, this is the same Maven know it all that befriended Bob Oliva for years, kissed Ernie Lorch's ring and still is friends with the blowhard Mike Jarvis and family. Now everyone I know who knew Bob Oliva knew he was a creepy guy but not Sammy.
His heir apparent, formerly Hit the Gym Slob, formerly Avon Barksdale, now "The Party's Over" on Twitter uses the exact same words and phraseology as the big fella. He too has "forgotten more about basketball than" blah, blah, blah. Hit/Avon/Party is fond of calling fellow fans out for hiding behind screen names. Go figure but all crusaders use shields to defend themselves against non believers and to block counter attacks. In their insulated world of world-wide Web social media these social misfits also are so self-righteous that they cannot tolerate dissent from their views and proceed to block others from the discussion. They conveniently take a page out of the North Korean form of "social" media to manipulate the media to seem like they are the majority. This insular group of crusaders follow each others cues and retweet each others anti Lavin propaganda with little originality.
They occasionally resurface on Johnny Jungle and Redmen.com to rub salt into the wounds of the non believers then retreat at the sign of any good news regarding the team, the coach or future recruits.
So, if that crusading group of Marco/Ricky/Baldi/Theo/Avon/Sammy/Gonzo appears like the majority that interact with Zach it may be because Zach has been annointed the media voice of the crusaders and should Lavin be given an extension or have any level of success, they will retreat to their Malta and live on a rocky relationship island for years to come. No visitors welcome! When the old king eventually dies they will have no reason to interact with any St. John's supporters any longer. They will still live their basketball alter egos by making believe that they are part of some "wildcat" nation but they will be dead to us.

Considering we had a 6 man team with no size, we did as well as can be expected...you can ssign blame to the coach for only having 6 serviceable players but that is a different issue..."Despite being picked by the league’s coaches to finish third, Lavin led the Johnnies (21-11) to a fifth-place finish."

They went in Cooley's huddle a few times and it's not like the guy is a professor. One huddle he only repeated "challenge every shot" at different volumes, with different tones, and in different ways.
Who would want to be a fan here when fellow fans like you are always bitchin about the fans?Honestly, this job sucks. Who would coach here? We have awful attendance. Providence fans take off two days of work, pay for airfare or gas, and hotels to support their team. We have guys who really believe that it is harder to take 1/2 day for STJ fans.
We kill every coach we have as fans. The AAU and high school coaches have personal agendas and feel slighted at the smallest of issues. Do we really need "reporters" doing the same to our coach?
