I think it is fair to say that he has increased our profile and relevance locally and nationally (with fans, recruits and the media). He also underachieved last year with a roster that should have made the tournament and he fell way short of the acceptable standard for 2014 recruiting (jury still out this year). And the program has had more than an acceptable level of drama, realizing that some of that is inevitable in college hoops these days.

A very fair and balanced assessment.

Moose, surely you are aware that by Norm's end days there were less than 2,000 season tickets sold. Yesterday and a couple of times this season, the place was filled to the rafters, with energized fans. the program is not where we want it to be, but to be dismissive of yesterday's crowd as a sign that this program has life is just a plain falsehood.

All BE conference games played at Carnesecca have always drawn well, even under Norm. I gave up my long held season tickets for a couple of seasons under norm and bought single game tickets for all BE games at Carnesecca and they were all big crowds.

The day after a big victory over a local rival, during a drive to make the tournament, on the last game for the seniors at CA, Brazzer gives us a shoddy three paragraph article containing less substance than a Redmen.com post. C'mon!

It was one of 3 articles covering 2 entire pages of the Post which is more coverage than we have gotten all year and you're complaining? :dry: :huh:

One difference between this coach and the previous one is that we used to play games at CA at this point in the season with qualifying for the last seed in the BET on the line. Now we play these games with a realistic hope for qualifying for the NCAA.

It's not what I expected at this point in the Lavin regime, but is miles away from where we were not too long ago.

I know almost all of us are looking forward to a great win tomorrow night at MSG. Let's hope we walk out of that building with the season on the upswing.

The quotes (and yes they can be construed in different ways) where he speaks of a sellout of CA is a joke. Talking about putting 5-6k fannies in the seats of CA when honestly the last 1/4 that forced a sellout were likely there for a bubblehead that is stuck on a boat in the Pacific Ocean right now. If we have 15k at MSG and he wanted to talk about a near sellout as a barometer for where the program is that I have zero issues with. But don't use a CA sellout as that barometer. If you choose to disagree thats cool.

There were no "bubbleheads" other than a few inebriated fans but the sellout was influenced by the availability of my substitute bobblehead from Chinatown that got stuck on the truck on the notorious Van Wyck. It was all set to arrive on time. Queens Blvd was a breeze and then they hit the Van Wyck.

Thank God for the Post. The Times doesn't seem to cover SJU at all and the News and Newsday have very limited coverage. Since pro football and college football trump college basketball just about everywhere does anyone know when the NCAA increased the number of games allowed why did they move the season opener from Thanksgiving to mid November?
It would have been a better idea to extend the season two weeks at the end of March. Now by the time the Super Bowl is played the college BB season is twenty games over.

SJU management is like the Mets. Always trying to underpay and never going after the top shelf free agents. As a result, we end up with mistakes - Jason Bay for 17 million per when the going rate for a superstar was $22 million, and a long history of going for second fiddles.

Quite frankly, St. John's thought they went into the well to pay JArvis the 800K or so package, which included some sponsor and media money. That was a quantum leap over Fraschilla and Mahoney's salary. So they decided that 800K (which was sub market by the time Norm was hired) guaranteed you nothing, and decided to scale back for a brilliant young assistant.

Not just that decision but the entire process during that search. Not a single worthwhile candidate ever seemed like they were being considered or courted.
