Next Coach?

Unless you get off on the smell of fertilizer...the team stunk under Norm. How quickly we forget.

His name only comes up here like 10 x a day. Back in those days, I got crapped on for rooting for him to succeed, even though I was really tired of our half a million per year version of Jobcorps for on the job training. He improved somewhat during his time here, but was so far from being a college coach that I still bristle when guys on here sanitize his accomplishments.

Wanna witness multiple people repeatedly cry over spilled milk? Come on over to redmen.com and read numerous stupid norm posts daily!

Never claimed the teams or the coach were good, but it was kind of like pulling a thorn out of an infected wound. Needed time for the puss to exit the wound before we could restart.

Although MJMaher would be better to correct you, I believe you mean pus.

Thank God for the Post. The Times doesn't seem to cover SJU at all and the News and Newsday have very limited coverage. Since pro football and college football trump college basketball just about everywhere does anyone know when the NCAA increased the number of games allowed why did they move the season opener from Thanksgiving to mid November?
It would have been a better idea to extend the season two weeks at the end of March. Now by the time the Super Bowl is played the college BB season is twenty games over.

Sunday Times article on New Zealand pro team where Cedric Jackson is featured player does not mention Ced's STJ connection.

In case you were wondering,

@YahooForde:
Another win for Bobby Hurley at Buffalo, now 18-9, 9-6 in MAC.
Brothers Hurley a combined 37-15.

Nope. Wasn't wondering about the Hurley Brothers at all. But thanks anyway for the update. :p

Amazing record! If they had not lost 15 games they would be undefeated. Kind of like St. John's in that if we did not lose 3 games in the final seconds by 4 points or less and did not lose to Gonzaga by 7 we would be 23-5 and ranked in the top 10. Of course if that had happened we would not be enjoying the "Next Coach" thread and Ricky would not have made one post on Redmen.com all year.
And just imagine a knucklehead coach like the wizard getting that lucky with a 6 man team with no bench. Thank God for the extra tutorials by Gene Keady at those posh SoHo bistros!

there's only one way we collapse, Lav gets fired and I'll be OK with it...and that's if Billy Donovan is announced the next day as our head coach. Other than that I'd rather make the tourney, see if Lav can get some players and hope we don't have another four year gap in tourney appearances

hypothetically speaking if I had a choice of Hurley's I'd choose the one I hate the most which is Bobby

that being said I'd rather just go on a roll right now and win some ncaa games and land a great recruiting class and have Lavin get extension

I would like to see us make NCAA, Lavin get renewed with a good incoming class and a clone of Dom.

Thanks for all the replies and negative karmas.
But I didn't say that Bobby should be the next coach. But he's someone that's been talked about on here and I saw a tweet regarding his teams performance.
not many of us keep up with the MAC.

Buffalo's rpi is 40 right behind STJ at 39.

I am not a numbers junkie but how is Buffalo's rpi so high? This system is majorly flawed. Are the road wins driving their rpi? Sorry but St. Johns and Buffalo's resume aren't even close. Buffalo doesn't have a top 50 win and only 3 top 100 wins!!!

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rpi/_/sort/RPI/teamId/2084

I love Bobby Hurley as a coach (and maybe it happens down the road), but I would rather see Lavin succeed this year and get an extension based off the team's performance this season and a late recruiting push.

Thats my point, Buffalo isn't getting an at large bid so everyone posting all these different Rpi numbers is irrelavant.
