Next Coach?

Watched the game on Fox and prior to the game one announcer said St. John's would loose while another said we would win. When asked why I was very disturbed by his response which was unfortunately very accurate.
He said because St. John's looses to teams they should beat and beats teams they shouldn't.
I thought back to year one when we lost to Fordham and St. Bonaventure amongst others and then went on to beat top 20 teams. Unfortunately there is too much truth in what the announcer said which makes it very hard on the fans.
I for one would consistently like to beat inferior teams.
Today was a very nice win. Kudos to all especially Sir Dom who is finally being properly used.

North, Dom has not been used any differently then he has before. The difference is he is making plays now. He hits his free throws but when he has the same shot that is not a free throw struggles from middle of the floor. To me he is MVP of season, if only he had a consistent jumper he may be best pro on the team.

Dom is absolutely being used differently then in the past. He used to hang on the perimeter, now he works the baseline and the elbows. But it is not only that he is being used better, he is playing his ass off and its great to watch.

Absolutely not. The last two seasons he played 20-30 feet from the basket which does not suit his skill set. This season he is playing 15-10 feet away which is perfect for him.

How about this: which coaches have great recruiting classes for next year? We'll need to steal a few recruits. VCU recruits are obvious but doubt we'll get Smart.

Anybody else see Lavin laughing and smiling as he shook hands with the other coach at the end of the game? It looked like he was telling some jokes, and McDermott wasn't having it.

It seems like with what Lavin said recently about not having pressure to win here, these terrible post game quotes and situations like this, he clearly isn't taking this job seriously. He has no desire to win and no desire to make these kids better. He's working for a paycheck and that's it. That's why we need to go in a different direction with this program. That's without even considering the results on the court.

Really enjoyed the pregame show segment "meet the Johnnies" where Lavin was interviewed and said that he enjoys "attending Sunday matinees and doing yoga, anything to get me away from basketball". If I'm the boss, nothing like hearing your highly paid underachieving employee talk about how badly he wants to get away from his job.

The inspiration for my avatar.

Check out the irony of the background image as well :)

Hahaha. Thats great.

Hurley's Buffalo team looking real good on ESPNU.

32-16 record

Focus and intensity.

To my knowledge both Hurleys are intense coaches. Are their sideline demeanors similar to Cluess, whose screaming on the bench has been criticized here by some of our fans?

Since I am one of those you are alluding to I will bite.

Danny is definitely in the same area as Cluess. And the times I've watched Bobby he wasn't in my mind. Maybe it was because Danny was soooo far on the spectrum. Then last night I saw a tweet alluding to Bobby having a sideline episode last night.

Moose, I wasn't being critical of those, just looking for input. FWIW, I know a kid who played for him at Suffolk CC, and he absolutely loves everything about Cluess. So I do know that a lot of his players are very loyal to him.

I like fire in my players and by no means do I want a country club coach. I'd support whoever is next coach at SJU whether it's Cluess or Hurley or whoever. Just don't see Cluess ever being a legit candidate

The next coach is Lavin- the school isnt changing coaches and they shouldnt.

I'm just tired of watching ugly unorganized playground ball. I watched this crap with Jarvis after the Riverside kids moved on. I watched this crap with Norm. I'm watching this crap with Lavin. Get a coach that knows X's and O's and knows how to teach. Get a coach that knows how to recruit players that fit a particular style of play. Get a coach that knows how to leverage our strengths and take advantage of the other teams weaknesses. Get a coach that can limit exposure of our weaknesses and limit the other teams strengths. I just want to watch fundamentally sound ball for a change.

I don't want a coach who will preach to his players.

And I don't want a coach who thinks his wife's free time should be spent gyrating in yoga poses in front of his players.
