Go out and get Shaka Smart!
Ben Howland.
Have I mentioned that before?
Wouldn't it be nice to have an actual professional coach?
Yes it would and I think Howland would be a good choice. Experienced, tough and I don't think he would be itching to leave as he has already been there and done that and it obviously did not work out. West coast guy who coaches east coast basketball; we could do a lot worse.
@rumbleSBN: Lavin on why his team has struggled in conference play: "There's no one particular area that we've struggled. It's different every game."
Nothing stopped coach Lav from recruiting over guys. He inexplicably went the other way leaving the team without replacements for the guys who are leaving. If the AD has not asked him where the players are, I would be very surprised. We are short 4 BE type players on this team, and 4 on the way with an attempt to continue recruiting players who are better then what you have. Coach either can't do the job, or didn't try. What we have could not have been the plan. Walkons, JC players without transcripts, or giving ships to players that don't come close to being BE level a bad attempt to make it seem you did something that looks like recruiting. Until I saw how this years roster played out, I was a coach Lav backer. This team was left skinny, starving and now beat up. How can he continue to be trusted running this team?LETS put 1/2 the problems on the players and 1/4 on the assistants and 1/4 on the coach
OUTSIDE OF Dlo,Pointer others are overated. Jordan as talent but has not produced according to his HS ranking Obekpa blocks shots thats it I do blame the staff for the recruiting picks but Hey a lot of good programs wanted these players They hustle and try hard can not fault them for playing up to there talent. Thats said we did lose some close games perhaps at least 3-4 that could have been ws .Then we would all be singing a different tune
SO Part of me says stay with coach and change some of his staff .Maybe our big recruiting class if it happens put problems to rest Call me optimistic
If they do fire Lavin, my guess is it will come down to 3 coaches: Tim Cluess, Dan Hurley, or Bobby Hurley
If its one of the Hurley's can they bring Dad along as an asst? Aside from the coaching experience, can you imagine the recruiting prowess he'd bring? Not that Danny or Bobby wouldn't be able to establish a pipeline to NJ on their own.
Dad is a High School coach. He recruits eighth graders based on his reputation. Do you think that translates to bringing MCDAA's here?

Shoot me.
Villanova fans make fun of Steve Lappas (who I happen to think is a very good guy, not an excellent coach, but a good guy) because he was famous for saying, "WE DO OK!"
Too many Big East teams have adopted this "WE DO OK!" attitude and have settled for less. With Lavin SJU will continue to probably do less than OK. A guy like Purnell, who is probably a wonderful human being, should have been gone yesterday. But again, it's the "WE DO OK!" attitude that keeps these guys around.
Bottom line is last year with guys like Sanchez and Sampson on the roster, MOST coaches who do better than OK, would have taken that team to the Sweet 16. Lavin doesn't even dance. Last year SHOULD have been the big indicator, but for some reason people don't see this. So why are people so surprised about what is going on this year? On paper, last year was the better team.
Bringing in another Top 50 guy should not save Lavin's job, he has done it before, and his teams still underperform on the court. SJU, New York's team, the team that calls MSG home, should no longer try to do OK. Lavin needs to go. Last night when he was smiling at the end of the Creighton game, I thought is this guy kidding me?
He is a great guy I'm sure, but UCLA warned SJU about Lavin and nobody listened. They couldn't have been more on point. It is time to start doing better than OK and Lavin is not the answer.
SJU Fans, stop settling for OK.
Anybody else see Lavin laughing and smiling as he shook hands with the other coach at the end of the game? It looked like he was telling some jokes, and McDermott wasn't having it.
It seems like with what Lavin said recently about not having pressure to win here, these terrible post game quotes and situations like this, he clearly isn't taking this job seriously. He has no desire to win and no desire to make these kids better. He's working for a paycheck and that's it. That's why we need to go in a different direction with this program. That's without even considering the results on the court.
Go out and get Shaka Smart!
This would be incredible considering he'd almost certainly bring over his upcoming recruiting class.
Unfortunately, it won't happen. He's turned down bigger jobs.

Money talks bs walks
We got a bunch of rich alumnis. I won't tell them how to spend their money.
BUT
If they really want the program to be on top then maybe offer him Donavan type money.
He might not take it, but I guarantee that he'll think alot about it.
Can we please stop with the Billy Donovan to St. John's fantasy?
I don't see alumni paying for Shaka.
Why the f--k would Donovan come here???????
@W_Hernandez16: @NYPost_Brazille At what point does the lack of success this season for the Johnnies fall on Lavin's shoulders?
@NYPost_Brazille: @W_Hernandez16 it's coming
