New York Mets 2025 Season

Maurico is huge for second base. 6'4" and 170lbs. I asked ChatGPT how many guys over 6'3" played 2B and they only came up with DJ Lemahieu. Maurico was known to be a negative glove, so I'd been very surprised in general.

I was shocked when I found out Lemahieu was that big around the time he joined the Yankees. He moved very well in his Rockies tenure...I thought he was around 6'0. Baty is 6'3 and more stiff than Mauricio, but he has years of QB footwork growing up that is very apparent.

Not disagreeing because only Alonso knows but the fact remains, like many power hitters, Alonso has always been streaky. If it was the result of the HBP, I would question why the Mets have continued to put him out there virtually every day for 7 weeks.

I agree with you. I just find it interesting that -- maybe -- there is some correlation. Lindor, who is even more notoriously streaky, has a similar correlation with his toe.

When Alonso struggles he chases sliders away and misses fastballs up. Lindor is missing fastballs up or gets caught chasing bounced breaking pitches. Both players have had extended slumps in the past. This is not new. Neither is .300 hitter material in their career because of it. It is who they are.

IMO neither has anything to do with injury. I admire that they are playing through some dings but so are a lot of other MLB players. These guys post everyday.

Francisco is a .270 career hitter. Alonso is a .250 career hitter. Both are a in the neighborhood of exactly what their career averages say they are.

Rogers has had a solid year. Very nice pick up. One more arm (could be starter or reliever, cause if it’s a starter Holmes could maybe go to the pen) and one reliable bat and I’d call it a very successful deadline

I’ve wanted Mitch Keller for awhile but haven’t heard any smoke there

I really like this move. Adds to the diversity of the bullpen, which Stearns loves. I'm greedy and want one more high leverage reliever.
Rogers has pitched in 53 games. 1.80 ERA. Has struggled a bit recently but exactly the type of guy we need. Hope, more is on the way.

Tidwell was a two pitch guy. Future bullpen guy. Gilbert is looking like a 4th OF type. Gotta give to get.

Butto is included!

Wild.

Still think this is a good trade, but we absolutely need at least one more arm, if not two.

No wonder Mendy tried to blow Butto’s arm last night. Just kidding. I haven’t trusted Butto since Milwaukee playoff bombs.

This reeks of a Butto is out of the Stearns/Mendoza circle of trust + we've got another reliever on the way.

This is only painful if Butto transitions back to a starter.

Gary must be sniffing glue. The guys we gave up all have deficiencies and are nice suspects.

Where was Gilbert going to play? I liked him and thought injury derailed him last season but until recently many had written him off.

We all saw Butto who was up and down and Tidwell needs work. This is a deal trading from excess.

Gilbert was also Rule 5, so he had to be on the 40 man next year. I'd be shocked if we don't get a CF'er, and Benge/Jett are also both ahead of him.

Butto has no minor league options left.
