New York Mets 2025 Season

Lindor and Pete have been garbage at the plate and now Soto is banged up. Just find a way to win tomorrow to make it a winning road trip, and get back to the east coast. This padres lineup kicks the crap out of us
Lindor whiffing with the bases loaded and NOBODY out with Soto having just left the game was a killer. They then had to PH Marte for Taylor shortening the bench. Marte got the Sac Fly but Lindor’s K was the key failure of the night.

That’s not very good . It’s not like Soto is tearing it up either I probably have these numbers off a little but that period is a little under a quarter of the season.

These are approximates since June 13th

Record - 17-21

RBI - Soto 22, Lindor 21, Alonso 18

It still seems like we almost definitely make the playoffs but these are two important months to get going in the right direction and very important for Alonso’s chance at a bigger payday.

And, no matter what we do at the deadline, our destiny is tied with "the fab four".

Jett Williams will get you that.

I'm a huge Jett Williams fan, but that would be a tall ask. He could probably steal 42 in a season early in his career and maybe he is a better overall player when everything is said and done after you factor in defense (hopefully 10 years in center) and OBP. I don't think he will ever come anywhere near batting .325 for a season.

It’s pretty obvious. We can talk all about the younger players (Baty, Mauricio, Alvarez, Vientos) all we want. This team is built around the Top 4 Nimmo, Lindor, Alonso and Soto. They are the ones paid big money to produce. If they don’t produce no team can win long term without the big stars producing. Right now Lindor and Alonso and Soto are in a prolonged slump. The stretch is here time to justify their status.

One thing that is maddening to me is some Nimmo ABs. Some ABs he swings at everything. Then he takes 3 pitches right down the middle. Overall he’s been good but damn his approach can be frustrating.

Our lineup is so short that when they moved Nimmo to the top of the order Alonso has zero protection. I really don't get it...I think this is incredibly easy to solve. Bat Vientos (or Mauricio if that is who you want to with) second. Hit Nimmo after Pete...he's a mature hitter that can get good pitches to hit that our younger players simply cannot at this stage of their respective careers. Hit Baty or the other youngster you play 9th before Lindor. Why would anyone give Baty, Vientos, or Alonso a fastball to hit 3-2 with who is behind them as the lineup currently sits. Why give Nimmo the best protection in baseball when he's perfectly capable of hitting 20-25 homers on an island?

Mauricio is such a free swinger, I think you can throw him on an island without protection. Not the other youngsters.

Lindor's struggles are tougher because it is a physical problem.

I looked it up and Jeffries had a career WAR of around 22 so if Williams passed that by a little I would be happy. Nimmo has career WAR of 26 to date.

I think if you are going to invest more time with Vientos it has to be as a DH. McNeil, Mauricio and Baty are all better fielders and all have been more productive as hitters. Marte is hot right now so it’s tricky.

The team needs to hit better with RISP and your recommendations couldn’t hurt with that.

I think its why Marte can be had at the deadline. Vientos is unplayable in the field, but so is Marte. Its also why I don't really mind if Vientos is traded. There's no guarantee his stock rises and his roster fit doesn't make sense with its current construction.

After watching one game at first base, I also don't want him there next year.

I know it doesn’t seem popular with Mets brass but in case they haven’t heard DH is now a position. Nothing wrong with committing Vientos to the role. I mean Winker is hurt and Marte is in his last few months as a Met. He won’t be back. They still can work him at 3rd for days off or sit him when other guys DH for rest.

I'm fine with Vientos at third if he hits like he did last season. I know that's not a popular opinion, but we made it to the NLCS with him there and no Soto. I also think he as the bat to play first or DH.

What I don't get is not protecting him. I said pre-season the range of outcomes for him is as wide as anyone in baseball based on where he hits in the lineup. He's consistently getting breaking balls in hitter's counts and it has his brain scrambled to the point you can sneak a fastball by him with two strikes, because he doesn't have the luxury of sitting fastball like almost every other potentially great young player in the league. When he's 30 he can figure that out, but not now.

This has been really frustrating. I think what ultimately happens is he hits second against a lefty, smashes a few homers, and then bats #2 the rest of the way.

If you take out his first two games against the Dodgers (went 0-8, but also should've been rehabbing in AAA), he has a .261 BA/.328 OBP/.477 SLG (.805 OPS). Also seems like a great club house guy (always cheering on his teammates) + buddying up with Soto to help with his strikeouts.

No wonder he's seen as untouchable.

Not sure of the correlation, certainly possible it could be a factor or a coincidence, Alonso has always been a notorious streak hitter.

He's very smooth at third. It's weird that he's so clumsy at second, because it would be a great way to get some offense there next year.

Maurico is huge for second base. 6'4" and 170lbs. I asked ChatGPT how many guys over 6'3" played 2B and they only came up with DJ Lemahieu. Maurico was known to be a negative glove, so I'd been very surprised in general.

They mentioned on sportscenter or PTI yesterday, I think it was Buster, that hand/wrist injuries linger and are real bad for hitters. Was speaking specifically about Suarez's trade value going down after getting hit in the hand 2x this week.
