New York Mets 2025 Season

One of my consistent mantras coaching, whether HS basketball or now 7U traveling baseball (my grandson) was repeating over and over to players that the ONLY thing they control is their effort.
So a question for you, what does “unacceptable” mean to you exactly? No one can knock Lindor’s effort EVER! You state Lindor is a “notoriously streaky hitter(s)”, yet state you “wouldn’t blame anyone for booing him.” For being EXACTLY the player you described a couple of sentences before, the player he has been his whole career?
Lindor comes across as someone who exudes class, a man’s man who doesn’t shy away from the microphone when things are going bad, and who certainly doesn’t hide behind excuses. Win or lose, going good or bad, he remains a leader by example and he is up there in my list of most admired NY athletes.
I will absolutely admit what I said was emotionally driven and irrational because everything you said is correct.

But i am very disappointed and frustrated in how consistently inconsistent he has been year after year. There is just something that is wrong with the perception of him as a top 10-20 guy but also not be able to hit for two or three months at a time.

I’m not a fan of booing our owns guys regardless. Not to say I haven’t cursed in anger over a play or something but just don’t like booing our guys. Don’t really see how it helps them get out of a slump. It would just piss me off even more

I’ll never boo our guys. It’s a mental game and booing just makes it worse.

Lindor’s struggles started when he got the fracture. Nobody plays harder.

Understood, and I very much share your emotions, the essence of being a fan.

The main issue is that our Fab 4 relies on two notoriously streaky hitters: Alonso and Lindor. Its partially why Stearns is hesitant to give Alonso a long-term commitment, and I don't blame him. Lindor is extremely frustrating and I wouldn't blame anyone for booing him. Hitting below .200 for a 48 game stretch is just unacceptable, and something he has a routine of doing at this point.

Nimmo/McNeil have been consistently good for the most part. The Soto RISP numbers are baffling and I'm not sure what to make of it. Vientos not taking a step forward this year has really harmed the offense. Hopefully Mullins adds something. I get too angry watching Taylor take at-bats at this point.
Some good points here IMHO. Team is overly reliant from Lindor/Alonso production (hr derby or nothing). I don’t agree about booing Lindor (and I realize that you are not doing it, but you understand why some people would) - I think these are the front running fans and not the guys who are at the ballpark on a rainy night in late April when the Mets are 7 games under .500.

I don’t think anyone thought Pete would hit .280 this year despite the hot start. BA has been diminishing slowly. Hard to have a .220 hitter in the middle of the lineup.
Mets had similar “one guy makes the team go” issues in the past -Jose Reyes being a prime example. And don’t get me started on Derek Bell - one month he would rake like Rogers Hornsby, the next he would be making Mario Mendoza feel second hand embarrassment.

The whole team has a RISP issue, it will be a killer in the end (would love to chow down on some crow for this comment btw).

McNeil/Nimmo - agree, Jeff in an upward arc.
Vientos - hopefully sophomore slump and not one hit wonder.

Not enthusiastic about Mullins - not much of an upgrade (GG/.229 vs Taylor’s excellent D and .199)
