New York Mets 2025 Season

Cedric Mullins to Mets according to ESPN Jeff Passan.
Hasn't had a good season, but did get his batting avg from .210 to .229 in the past month. So thats.... something. I like Mullins overall and I hope his play the past month continues.

All in all though we probably could have saved ourselves some trouble back in the offseason if we just re-signed Bader. He loved it here too

No no it’s a haul! Three warm bodies…🤣

Not a crazy move. He hits more than Taylor which isn’t hard. Maybe he bounces back in a pennant race.
Probably worth it although his fielding metrics are down this year. We probably can keep Taylor on the roster for now also. I saw Gomez pitch at Brooklyn. It was amazing to see a guy in A ball throwing so hard but he has had a lot of injuries and a little out of shape.

Mullins is a massive offensive upgrade to Taylor. And, again, we didn't give up much. Gave up three prospects. Gomez throws 104mph but isnt doing well in Brooklyn -- an intriguing lottery ticket. Nunez has pitched well and a reliever. Marsh was a UDFA two years ago -- massive success to be able to leverage him for something.
This is a steal for us. Huge.

The speed will be big in the postseason. He also has some pop which will be nice since Taylor has absolutely no power. Seems like a substantial upgrade.

Taylor is like having a pitcher in the lineup. Mullins is at least a threat at the plate, and can play every day in CF to preserve McNeil's legs. It'll make the Baby Mets thing more interesting since they're probably fighting for one spot (3b) unless Winker is out.

It's brutal. I didn't have a problem with him last year batting .248 with 7 homers, but .201 with 2 homers as an everyday player is crazy and it puts so much stress on the guys ahead of him. He really should be starting 1 game a week and coming in late for defense when we are up late.

Mullins' platoon splits are weird this year for a lefty hitter. He's hitting .298 against lefties in 101 at bats this year with a .390 OBP and .476 slug. He's mashing. Against righties he's only slashing .204/.272/.417. He was better against righties in 2024 and for the rest of his career. For a righty hitter, Taylor is hitting just .174 against lefties...so there goes any conventional matchup platoon ideas. To further complicate CF, McNeil is slashing .317/.417/.463 against lefties this year, albeit over just 48 at bats.

Since Mullins gave up switch-hitting in 2021, his splits against lefties are: .788 OPS, .578, .708, .506, and .866. Maybe we caught him on the odd year so he'll be fine?

I think what we'll wind up doing is: Mullins every day in CF, McNeil at 2B against lefties & DH against righties, Maurico/Baty at 3B & 2B against righties, Marte is DH against lefties, and Vientos at 3B against righties. Acuna is sent down to AAA.

But Vientos (especially)/Maurico/Baty can play more or less based on how they're hitting.
