New York Mets-2018
Sloppy defense. On other side of coin, is it time to convince Bruce to take over at first & get Nimmo in the lineup regularly? Gonzalez came up with Lou Gehrig I believe.
Bruce at First makes us better in OF as well.

Yes, I agree on both points Jack. I want to give him (Rosario) the benefit of the doubt, he's young, its cold but... There have been several balls that have eaten him alive and they have been generous to not give him an error. His footwork is slow as he likes to play too many balls to either the backhand or side. He also has taken a little too much time with his throws at times.

I agree Lagares played that poorly. It was a rocket though. He might have played it better if he let it hit off the wall and might have prevented tie run from scoring. Poor defensive game all around. The Rosario error let them tie game earlier. At some point our GM may want to consider acquiring a catcher that can hit better than .100. That also started to show yesterday.
Anyone else get the feeling Rosario likes to backhand the ball instead of getting his body in front. Is it me or is he overhyped as a defensive player?
I’m still a fan but I’m surprised they haven’t worked more on his mechanics but he’s young but you need to correct flaws early because it’s all about repetition

#Mets Manager Mickey Callaway with @PeteyMacWOR & @sal_licata on moving Jay Bruce to first base "We have to be prepared to do that at some point." #LGM

I would have thought Spring Training would have been the time for that. The excuse for not doing it was "we wanted to give AG every opportunity to make the team". To that I say, what?
It took harvey exactly 1 batter to spoil degroms shutout
no confidence right now.

Don't think you get credit for a shutout unless you pitch a complete game although maybe they changed that statistical rule since complete games are almost unheard of anymore.
whew !!!
LOL. MJM, That is exactly how it felt. How bad is that in 5-1 game?

Matt Harvey looked done last night. He came in for one inning and threw a couple of 93 mph fastballs and then dropped off. He got very wild for a while as well.

Tonight is a tough one. San Diego has a rookie lefty that has had a nice start to the season and we couldn’t hit Clayton Richard last night. Interesting to see what we can get from Vargas this season. Would be great if he can do well for a while to stabilize our back half of the rotation.

Somebody needs to start driving the ball. We are not getting enough extra base hits.

That's true. But there are team shutouts.

Mets have blown a crazy number of leads for deGrom over his career

As Hernandez mentioned last night , Harvey looked whipped. Poor baby!

Don't know about you but Vargas' poor performance scares the hell out of me. First of all any pitcher who averages 87 mph with a hanging curveball that has no sink will have a hard time shaking a 22.00 ERA. Of course this was his debut this year but the Padres of all teams. Let's not forget he did horrendous the second half of last year. Of course Alderson went cheap..

We won today so we finished April 17-9. Some will say a little disappointing after the 11-1 start but I will say a fantastic start for a very flawed team. Below are my April observations.

Starting pitching - DeGrom and Syndegaard have been outstanding and seem to be getting better each start.
Wheeler has been a slightly below average starter and Matz is worse. We have no viable fifth starter to date.

Relieve pitching - Familia while having three few blown saves has looked very good at times. Sewald and Gsellman very solid to date. Robles when he has been here and Ramos look average. Lugo seems to be fading. Blevins has struggled. When is Swarzak coming back?

Offense - Cabrera and to a lesser extent Frazier have been excellent. Cespedes has been very clutch and seemed to be getting going until he jammed his hand today stealing 3rd base. Will miss at least 3 games unless the MRI shows something worse. Nimmo has been great when he plays as well has Lagares. Conforto needs to get some extra base hits and Bruce a little more consistent. Gonzales has been league average. Rosario needs to get better as does Flores. The catchers are horrible and I am including Plawecki in that bunch.Reyes is old.

Defense - Frazier and Gonzales when he plays are upgrades. Rosario and Cabrera are usually solid as well. Outfield pretty good although Bruce is a little shaky. Catchers are horrible and are not helped by the fact that many pitchers can't hold runners on. Overall though it is better then last year.

To date we have been a league average team that is 17-9. Lets see what May brings.

Interesting it took Callaway a while to realize Seawald throws strikes and can give him some innings. Remember he was rarely used earlier in the season. Kid has moved up.

When will the players slide legs first to prevent injuries to their hands. Looks like a bunch of slow learners to me. Time for managers to insist no one slides head first.

Jack, Gary/Keith made just that point during the broadcast when Cespedes jammed his finger. However, its just spitting in the ocean. Instead some players just wear that ridiculous looking oven mitt that encourages (or seems to) more face first sliding.

Big series coming up vs Atlanta. Looking forward to going to the game on friday against the Rockies. Ironically I'll be going to coors field next tuesday for the first time while I'm in Denver. If anyone has any advice on good food to try at that stadium let me know
